Chicago's mayor-elect said the city should not demonize the teens who organized a 'Teen Takeover' of the Loop over the weekend, even after the event turned violent with cars burnt cars and minors shot.

Just imagine the amount of attention these “youths”!will get with the 2024 Dem Convention. Tell them the Dems can be persuaded to pass reparations.
That’s not a very long time, but it’s longer than I’ve lived there.
Only one year to go before the DNC convention hits ChiTown.

What’s the practical difference between “vilifying” and “condemning” behavior? Are we really gonna get hung up on words? Is the mayor gonna set the tone on crime or isn’t he?

I agree, they voted for it. However, we should expect American cities to ofter a modicum of safety for visitors. My daughter and her husband flew into Chicago Saturday for depositions this week. They had no choice but to attend in person as the attorneys want to view body language, demeanor, or some such ridiculousness. They are staying less than a mile from this madness. It’s snowing there this morning, so maybe some of the yoots will stay in, but I’ve advised her to practice extreme situational awareness.
Here’s a thought. Mention the events of Saturday night to the attorneys involved and demand personal security paid for by whomever compelled this deposition. Copy the judge.
Be polite and repeat how willing you are to cooperate but not at the risk of their lives. This is a reasonable position.
Then sit back and watch the fun.
