Slavery, the Left, and Truth

A generation of Americans is being raised on half-truths and lies about the history of slavery in America. They are given the impression that America was uniquely bad and that American slavery was uniquely bad. They learn nothing about slavery elsewhere. Among the many lies they are told are that "black slaves built America" and that America is systemically racist.

Since the only mortal enemy of the Left is truth, here are some truths about slavery.

AMERICA'S SLAVERY COMPARED TO SLAVERY ELSEWHERE

If you are interested in morality and committed to truth, you do not ask, "Who had slaves?" You ask, "Who ended slavery?"

Who had slaves?

Every civilization throughout history had slaves: Asian societies, Africans, Native Americans and other Indigenous peoples around the world, and the Muslim/Arab world, which may have had the most slaves of all.

Who ended slavery?

There was only one thing unique about slavery in the West: It raised the issue of the morality of slavery, ferociously debated it and finally abolished it there, before it was abolished in any other civilization. If you care about moral truth rather than, for example, promoting America-hatred, you must recognize -- and you must teach -- that America was one of the first slave-holding societies to abolish slavery. This even includes Africa. Cornell professor Sandra Greene, a black scholar of African history, notes, "Slavery in the United States ended in 1865, but in West Africa it was not legally ended until 1875, and then it stretched on unofficially until almost World War I."

Trying to get the facts out? Good luck. Remember, branDUHn said if there is a choice between "truth" and "facts", they'll choose "truth". Mis/dis/mal-information is the word of the day everday. To further their goals.

Slavery ended worldwide largely because Europe had a spiritual great awakening and ended slavery in the places they controlled. That, and global warming (Modern Warm Period) removed some of the supply and demand of slaves that were enhanced by the Little Ice Age.

The two main things the Dims are at war with are Christianity and global warming.

Liberals hate MAGA but they hate raw truth even more. Nice post.

Cultures that sell their own people into slavery are always inferior. By definition...

All the negros whose ancestors weren’t brought here as slaves are now showing up here voluntarily on their own although America an “evil and racist country”. Why are they all coming? Because the crackers give each of them their own official U.S. race card that is not available anywhere else on the planet and claiming ancestors who were slaves is now going to be accepted by the dumbass government on the “honor system”. “Reparations!” Yee Haw. They’re all going to buy their own Walmarts and Cadillac dealerships.

The two cultures that still have slaves are Muslims and the Chinese. Dims dare not criticize either.

Cuba and Brazil imported far more slaves from the African slave traders than did the US. In the US 5-10% of the slave owners were black. Are we to give reparations to the blacks that are descendants of black slave traders and slave owners just because of the colour of their skin?

Yeah, I had a link somewhere showing the routes and dispersal numbers. Yeah, we weren’t nearly as bad as portrayed.

The slave trade in the US, importing slaves, ended in 1808 as William Wilberforce forced England to stop slave trading. US followed shortly after. Slaves were bought and sold here up until 1865 when emancipation occurred. however there are still slaves in the US today.

It raised the issue of the morality of slavery, ferociously debated it and finally abolished it there, before it was abolished in any other civilization.

That's what they have been trying to convince us to believe for over 160 years, but the evidence indicates this is just a lie and that it is propaganda.

The Corwin Amendment (an Amendment to the Constitution to make slavery permanent in the United States) passed the House and Senate by greater than a 3/4ths margin in March of 1861. Abraham Lincoln himself called for this amendment to be ratified and did whatever he could to see that this amendment would get ratified.

There was no "moral" consideration for doing this. The reason the Northern controlled congress voted to make slavery permanent was in an effort to keep the Southern states (producing 700 million per year in the economy of 1860, most of which was controlled by DC and Northern industrialists/power brokers) under their economic control.

They didn't care about slavery beyond the extent it affected their power and their money. They certainly didn't care about the slaves as people.

There was no "morality" there. It was all self interest.

African slaves in America 150 or so years ago were all enslaved by other Africans, who sold some of them to Arab Muslims, who sold some of them to Europeans. Arab Muslims also enslaved Europeans. There is still slavery in Africa today, and it’s not whites who are doing it. But those crying about slavery 150 or more years ago in America don’t care, because they’re hypocrites.

"The number of whites who were enslaved in North Africa by the Barbary pirates exceeded the number of Africans enslaved in the United States and in the American colonies before that put together." - Thomas Sowell

Although slavery was a worldwide institution for thousands of years, nowhere in the world was slavery a controversial issue prior to the 18th century. People of every race and color were enslaved – and enslaved others. White people were still being bought and sold as slaves in the Ottoman Empire, decades after American blacks were freed.

Everyone hated the idea of being a slave but few had any qualms about enslaving others. Slavery was just not an issue, not even among intellectuals, much less among political leaders, until the 18th century – and then it was an issue only in Western civilization. Among those who turned against slavery in the 18th century were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and other American leaders. You could research all of the 18th century Africa or Asia or the Middle East without finding any comparable rejection of slavery there. But who is singled out for scathing criticism today? American leaders of the 18th century.

In 1862, a ship carrying slaves from Africa to Cuba, in violation of a ban on the international slave trade, was captured on the high seas by the U.S. Navy. The crew were imprisoned and the captain was hanged in the United States – despite the fact that slavery itself was still legal at the time in Africa, Cuba, and in the United States. What does this tell us? That enslaving people was considered an abomination.

There are currently an estimated 27 million men, women, and children in the world who are enslaved — physically confined or restrained and forced to work, or controlled through violence, or in some way treated as property. Therefore, there are more slaves today than were seized from Africa in four centuries of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

From Wkipedia

William Ellison was African American, born into slavery in April of 1790 with the name April Ellison to a slave mother and white slave master father, Mr. William Ellison.

By 1850, Ellison had 37 slaves while his sons owned another 16. He was one of about 180 black slave masters in South Carolina at the time, most of whom were former slaves themselves. Like Ellison, they realized that the only way to get out of the lower middle class that so many freed blacks were stuck in, was slave labor. With nearly 9,000 free blacks in South Carolina, that 180 made up a tiny percentage who were willing to do anything to compete with the upper class white slave owners at the time.

They Were White and They Were Slaves is a thoroughly researched challenge to the conventional historiography of colonial and industrial labor, a stunning journey into a hidden epoch, the slave trade of Whites, hundreds of thousands of whom were kidnapped, chained, whipped and worked to death in the American colonies and during the Industrial Revolution. This is a chronicle that has never been fully told, part of a vital heritage that has until now comprised the dustiest shelf in the darkest corner of suppressed history.

Keep in mind that the self interest you allege is all Democratic party. Only Demos owned slaves. Only they enacted JimCrow laws and fought the civil rights movements and laws.

And, despite the lies you misrepresent there was a morality component. The US was in a quandary since in order to not be in conflict with its premise that “all men are created equal” it had to officially say that blacks are not complete men. The founders knew this could not stand but they had to stay free of Britain.
Once the US was strong enough they rejected the partial man premise, which is a moral issue. Purely.

However, the Democrats never bought into that idea. That is why all of them still consider blacks to be “their property”.

Great post facts many don’t know about or admit about thanks.

If we only had schools that teach facts rather than try to alter history to fit their agenda.
