Tire pressure and design may have to be changed to accommodate for greater weight of vehicle.

Roads and bridges are not the biggest item needing upgrades

The electrical grid will fail first

Everything about the “zero emission” vehicle is a joke.

Somewhere that power is generated, and it’s usually coal and/or gas.

Then that power is wired across a grid (with a small loss) which is already stretched to the max in many places in high summer or winter. It runs through multiple transformers, each time with a loss, needs to get forced into the battery (which resists that charge and heats up (some of the energy is lost there), and no one is looking at the true energy cost and pollution (heavy metals, mining, etc) generated by building these batteries (energy intense) in the first place.

But yes, if you look at an electric motor in a vacuum, with >90% efficiency, it beats any Otto, Diesel, Wankel motor, even a turbine. All of these lose a lot or even most of there energy in the form of heat.

But then we only look at the rear of the electric car and claim it’s “zero emissions” because it has no exhaust pipe.

Those batteries also use rare earth metals, heavy metals, and often include things like Cobalt mined in places like Africa where child or even slave labor is used.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBf58FjxJmk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9jscWk2DMg

These batteries add enormous weight to the vehicle which of course also impacts how much energy is used to accelerate it (there goes some of your efficiency). They have a very finite life (cycle life - how many times they can be charged and discharged), and even with sophisticated management systems which try to squeeze the last little bit out of them they simply will not last as long as even the cheapest conventional Otto engine. You will NOT get 23 years and 239,000 miles out of them as my current Toyota Camry has, as a E.E. I can PROMISE you that.

It takes a long time to charge these batteries (not the best solution for a long road trip), and they are sensitive to ambient temperature extremes, either extremely hot or cold.

But here’s the real death blow. The energy density by volume and mass is simply not even remotely comparable with gasoline. You need an enormous weight and volume in batteries and if a Tesla Model S were to have a conventional Otto Engine, it would likely weigh ~ 1,600 lbs less (even considering the added weight of the engine/transmission compared to the electric motors).

But someone decided to label them as “green” and because you’re dealing with folks that are like Pavlov’s dog, salivating when they hear a bell rung, that’s it. Electric cars are “green,” and like Gore said a long time ago, “the debate is over.”

"There will be new taxes but I haven’t heard how they plan to tax electric vehicles."

The vehicle reports your mileage to the NSA in Utah, then the amount determined by your betters is deducted automatically from your new CBDC bank account.
And if your EV is parked outside a steakhouse in NYC, Mayor Adams will have the appropriate meat consumption 'fee' automatically deducted from your CBDC bank account.

So, wonder what happens when an EV gets submerged or in a flood?

Your an optimist figuring they will have new taxes ONLY on electric vehicles :}

Very flawed logic, they want to force the trucks to be EV’s too

I'm 100% against the government forcing anything. As conservatives we shouldn't fall for the trap of arguing one of the two sides as the Dims define an argument.

The Dims draw a line in the sand and try to coerce us to do EV's. Our argument shouldn't be "No. ICE's are better." Our argument should always be "Get the government out of the way and let the free market decide".

The same for energy sources. Don't let them frame the argument as coal and natural gas vs solar and wind. The real argument is government intrusion vs free market and our response should always be "Get the government out of the way and let the free market decide".

We don't win that argument by trying to be too cute by half and feel like we're winning with factoids, especially when half the time they aren't correct (i.e. EV's are heavier than ICE cars). For example, your statement that they want to force trucks to be EV's is true, but doesn't help the argument regarding weight. Look at these weights: The F-150 Lightning base model weighs 6,500 lbs (https://www.jdemmerford.com/research/new-ford-f150-lightning-weight-dimensions.htm, while the F-150 ICE (4X4 and crew cab like the "base model" Lightning to do comparison) is 6,470 lbs (https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2022-Ford-F_150-XLT__4x4_SuperCrew_Cab_5.5_ft._box_145_in._WB/specs/). So if we run around and say, "Hey, Dims. Your precious EV's are killing us with heavy weight" we look as dumb as they do every time they say the north pole will be ice free in 5 years.

Our facts don't have to be right as long as there are no specifics to debate over. Get the government out of the way, let the free market decide, and harness the power of 300 million brains in our country trying different things and some of our decisions will result in being the wise ones. Others will see it and change their future decisions accordingly.

WE ALL know the answer to that———

NO ONE thought about this weight difference being a problem.

Cannot yell at people who built parking garages in past years-—

Who ever envisioned car batteries weighing as much as the EV batteries???

Easy solution, don’t allow EVs to park in parking structures.

They will be taxed by miles driven. Where
mileage will be reported is the question.
Three possible reporting venues would be
your insurance company, your department
of motor vehicles at time of registration
on a yearly basis, or your yearly income
tax reporting.
