Trump attorneys reveal Mar-a-Lago classified documents contained notes from calls with foreign leaders: Ex-President's lawyers suggest White House staff 'swiped' files from his desk and DOJ should 'stand down' over 'botched investigation'

Classified documents from Mar-a-Lago contained notes prepared for former President Trump's calls with foreign leaders, according to a letter from Trump attorneys obtained by DailyMail.com in which they also lambasted the Department of Justice for conducting a 'botched' investigation.

A scathing letter from Trump's attorneys Timothy Parlatore, Jim Trusty, John Rowley and Lindsey Halligan was sent to House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio, Wednesday.

They slammed the Department of Justice's handling of the investigation thus far and encouraged Congress to take a more active role in the matter.

Two of Trump's lawyers, Trusty and Parlatore, were able to review the contents of the 15 boxes earlier this year and saw 'placeholder pages' where classified materials were removed by the archives.

[snip]

'The boxes contain all manner of documents from the White House, are loosely grouped by date, and include newspapers, magazines, notes, letters, and daily schedules,' they wrote in the letter. 'Following its review of the materials, NARA inserted placeholder pages where it had removed documents with classification markings.'

Remember how the media pretended the documents at Mar a Lago were all disorganized, and showed pictures as if documents were scattered all on the floor? Well, apparently the documents were so organized that NARA simply inserted a "place-holder" in the spots from which they removed documents. And since Trump's attorneys knew what was in those spots, they know what documents were removed.

Notes of subjects to be discussed with foreign leaders are not exactly "top classified nuclear secrets".

.

“encouraged Congress” to take a more active role.

Yeah, they’re too busy giving Wray and Garland more money!

Never Happen.

If they were, Vindman should’ve be prosecuted rather than celebrated.

Same for Eric Ciaramella

I think you’re making good points.

******************

It’s the same modus operandi with every alleged Trump scandal.

A bunch of hyperbole and lies before an eventual “small print” mea culpa by dishonest propagandists.(See the Russia Russia hoax/canard waged against Trump)

Has nothing to do with Smith. Even Trump has never made this claim.

********

I don’t spend much time on “oh noes” the documents, so I’ll take your word for it.

It looks like the liberals running the National Archives are treating Trump differently than other Presidents, from my perspective.

Our legal system is completely corrupted. Yet, we have “experts” whining when Trump speaks out in unorthodox ways.

**************

Smith is pulling a paycheck just like Mueller.
Same fate as Mueller and impeachment farce #1.

We aren’t “taking down” ANY President over special/secret information that only a handful of government parasites are privy to.

The day we do, we don’t have a Presidency anymore.

“Why is this the first time this explanation has been shared?”

_____

Good question. Below is a link to a “Just the News” article on the issue.

https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/all-things-trump/trump-lawyers-tell-congress-doj-misled-country-courts-classified

They have a link to the letter in full as well.

From the letter:

“”Deficient document handling and storage procedures are not limited to any individual, administration, or political party,” the lawyers wrote. “A legislative solution by Congress is required to prevent the DOJ from continuing to conduct ham-handed criminal investigations of matters that are inherently not criminal.””

I think the attorneys are correct on that issue. As of now the NARA and DOJ/FBI get to pick and choose how they deal with classified records violations. As we all know there are two standards depending on whether you have a (D) or (R) by your name. There needs to be clarification across the board.

11. Re Archives treated Trump differently than any other president. Yes. Took them 6 months to “replace” a photo of Trump with a “better one” on the wall in the entrance where they are shown for each administration’s president.

I agree it's different, but that's not bad. Just new information.

We know President Trump had his Standing Order Declaration in place so that anything taken to WH2 was automatically declassified. Whether these notes fall into that category I don't know. I also know President Trump was right when he said Kathleen Bates should have been appointed Special Master as that would have nipped this in the butt.

Have ever seen a copy of that standing order? And memorialized as WH policy? Or will that be new information too?

You’ll also notice that no reference is made to the standing order in the latest explanation.

Obviously I don't have firsthand access to the President's documents, but you can hear about it here:

That has nothing to do with memorializing a declassification order. Nor does it explain why his attorney’s make no mention of it in their letter to Congress. I guess they’re afraid of lying to Congress?
