“Back in my day the High School Assistant Principal was the one with the large paddle mounted on the wall behind his desk. “

Mr. Riddle, the English teacher, had the paddle mounted on the wall. It had holes in it, to make it sting.

Yes, hard to avoid the "back in my day" comments. Our Asst Principal was a WWII Marine, at our all boys Catholic High School. He was the discipline for the Christian Brother order who ran the school. We only ever heard our last names from him - "Smith, Scully, Rodriguez, get over here!"

He kept order, and forced us to live in Christian brotherhood, despite our natures, until we understood what it meant.

So, Riddle's paddle was riddled with holes?

Regards,
