Perry did not get a fair trial and police evidence that he was confronted by a protester brandishing an AK-47 was suppressed by a corrupt DA. Abbot is right to pardon him

When Governor Abbot pardons Sergeant Perry it is likely that the Brandon regime will indict him on federal civil rights charges. Those charges would also be tried in Austin before a jury of far-left democrats and only the next President will be able to pardon him.

I thought executive pardon power is absolute.

Under the Texas state constitution, the governor has very little executive power. Pardons must first be recommended by the pardon review board; however, the governor does get to appoint the members of that board (appointment power is probably the Texas governor's primary power).

Also, anything substantive requires a constitutional amendment (approved by both the legislature and by popular vote) and the legislature only meets for a few months every other year. Get 'em in and get 'em out before they can do any serious damage.

Texas was founded by people trying to get away from government. Unfortunately, in modern times, the permanent civil service class has grown exponentially and controls most government functions.

For the US President it is. But details vary between states at the state level.

This is the result of Democrat insanity!

Pray that Governor Abbot acts forthwith to pardon Sergeant Perry.

Vote Democrat, and you will get chaos, crime, carnage, corruption and riots!

He sure as hell could. Pardon can happen immediately after conviction. In fact, it can happen at anytime after the crime happened INCLUDING before the trial.

In any case, other than have his PIO make a statement, I have not seen him lift a finger to advance the process as that innocent man rots in prison.

Here’s the problem: Even if Abbott pardons him, the case will be taken up by Biden’s DOJ and that horrid little worm, Merrick Garland.

They don't even bother to try to hide it now. They rub our noses in it and double dog or maybe even triple dog dare us to do something about it. Knowing in advance that we won't. But that is what we get for not fighting in 2020.

I just read that Mexican “truckers” are going to boycott Florida because of Florida trying to stop the ILLEGAL aliens from invading America. If De Santis is smart, he’ll ban Mexican truckers from entering Florida. Surely America has enough AMERICAN truckers to replace them. Don’t we?

TX set up the pardon and parole board because of scandals of Governor Jim Ferguson selling pardons.

You might want to actual read the Texas State law first...

Art. 48.01. GOVERNOR MAY PARDON. (a) In all criminal cases, except treason and impeachment, the Governor shall have power, after conviction or successful completion of a term of deferred adjudication community supervision, on the written signed recommendation and advice of the Board of Pardons and Paroles, or a majority thereof, to grant reprieves and commutations of punishments and pardons; and upon the written recommendation and advice of a majority of the Board of Pardons and Paroles, he shall have the power to remit fines and forfeitures. The Governor shall have the power to grant one reprieve in any capital case for a period not to exceed 30 days; and he shall have power to revoke conditional pardons. With the advice and consent of the Legislature, the Governor may grant reprieves, commutations of punishment and pardons in cases of treason.

(b) The Board of Pardons and Paroles may recommend that the Governor grant a pardon to a person who:

(1) is placed on deferred adjudication community supervision under Subchapter C, Chapter 42A, and subsequently receives a discharge and dismissal under Article 42A.111; and

(2) on or after the 10th anniversary of the date of discharge and dismissal, submits a written request to the board for a recommendation under this subsection.
