The federal government is not a business.

Americans with money can easily refuse to deal with Ponzi Bank & Trust (or Buchanan Car Credit Inc.) but they can’t safely refuse to pay the IRS.

If the federal government wants money to pay off a debt, its tax collectors can get it.

All it takes to get the federal government further financed as per the McCarthy plan is an ‘aye’ from Schumer and Joe’s passivity.

Every Republican should remember Ben Franklin’s words:

“We must indeed all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.”

The Democrats are vindictive - study the history of Hillary Clinton, or ask Donald Trump. Democrats can not be allowed to gain absolute power without our best efforts to stop them.

“It’s a zero sum game for Joe Biden and the Democrats.”

Ask the Romanoffs about a zero sum game.

Top off Communism with racial and anti-religious hate and you’ll know by 2029 the price of not fighting in 2023.

They are already factoring the likelihood of default into the interest rate.

“It would hit “contracts, collateral, clearing houses, and affect clients definitely around the world.”

Pack your bags, Dimon.

Correct. We are dealing with the Bolshevik Democrats. But not all the Democrats are like that. Apparently, JFK loved his country. And it appears that RFK Jr is the same way. Which is way you do not see MSM or DNC support RFK Jr.

“I say burn it to the ground”

If it’s going to burn, we might as well light the fire.

“If inflation continues to stay sky high, that may persuade the American people to stop supporting the Biden Administration.”

Food prices about doubled and Democrats didn’t lose many elected offices.

Inflation to a loyal Democratic voter means getting $15/hour instead of $11/hour (for 30% less hours) and having your housing voucher increased to cover any rental increase.

The McCarthy plan to reduce Democratic vote buying is absolutely necessary to prevent the installation of Democratic dictatorships.

Joe is lining up millions of potential voters south (along Trump’s walls) (and north) of the US/Mexican border.

Will you be selling some stock at a lower price after default, Mr. Damon?

I didn’t get to run this enormous bank by selling stock needlessly cheap.

Rich people are patient people. They do not panic.

That's the long term strategy for the Democratic Party but that won't help him in 2024. Right now, many of the illegals are not Mexican. A good number of Venezuelans in Florida ended up voting for Trump in 2020 and I assume they voted for DeSantis in 2022. They left a dump and they do not want to see USA turn into a dump.

“those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”

Ben Franklin

“he actually meant purchase a little temporary safety very literally. The Penn family was trying to give a lump sum of money in exchange for the General Assembly’s acknowledging that it did not have the authority to tax it.”

“It is a quotation that defends the authority of a legislature to govern in the interests of collective security.”

Benjamin Wittes, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and the editor of Lawfare

“won’t help him in 2024”

Under the Refugee Convention, the Venezuelans are entitled by treaty to expedited citizenship, at the lowest possible price.

“Article 34 - Naturalization
The Contracting States shall as far as possible facilitate the assimilation and naturalization of refugees. They shall in particular make every effort to expedite naturalization proceedings and to reduce as far as possible the charges and costs of such proceedings.”

https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/convention-relating-status-refugees

“Article 23 - Public relief
The Contracting States shall accord to refugees lawfully staying in their territory the same treatment with respect to public relief and assistance as is accorded to their nationals.”

How would the US get out from under the Convention?

By invoking Article 44

Did you ever hear Trump, DeSantis or Abbott demanding Article 44 be invoked?

The United States can only default by choice. If the deb ceiling is not raised then The US simply starts paying interest with money from the myriad Unconstitutional government programs. Default would be the government saying that it chooses not to repay its creditors. That is not going to happen. If Biden refuses o the end to dicker then a couple of Republicans will likely cave. The real requirement for sanity is that the limit be not raised at all and let the inflation reduce the dollar until it is got under control then reduce the debt limit by 1/2 or 1 % a year thenceforth.

Exactly! Finally, someone gets it. The options are a little bump in limit and cuts, or no bump. Let Joe not make debt payments and go to jail. Make Joe explain what he won’t pay!

Don’t play the dem’s game!

I need someone to educate me... What the strategy for the average investor who is invested in a range of mutual funds and some cash? What should that investor be doing right now?

Depends on how old you are. I am not that old so I am leaving it in the market. Even if it goes down now, it'll go back up in a couple of years.

5. A Zillow economist said home sales could crash 23% in the event of a US default. The so-called "X-date" is inching closer for the debt ceiling, and the housing market will feel the burn if no resolution is reached. The unprecedented event would deliver a "major negative shock" and a "deep freeze" for housing.

Yikes!
