No One Participates in Politics More than Atheists, Even White Evangelicals
Graphs About Religion ^ | May 16, 2023 | Ryan Burge

The last forty years of politics and religion has been focused squarely on the ascendancy of the Religious Right. I must admit that I’ve probably contributed my fair share to that discourse, as well.

A motley crew of white evangelicals and traditional Catholics locked arms on some social issues, started voting in large numbers for Republican candidates, and changed American politics forever.

But I think that era of religion and politics is rapidly coming to a close. The Religious Right is no longer a primarily religious movement - it’s one about cultural conservativism and nearly blind support for the GOP with few trappings of any real religiosity behind it.

Here’s what I believe to be the emerging narrative of the next several decades: the rise of atheism and their unbelievably high level of political engagement in recent electoral politics. Let me put it plainly: atheists are the most politically active group in American politics today and the Democrats (and some Republicans) ignore them at their own peril.

The data is clear and unequivocal on this point - no one gets involved in the political process to the level of the average atheist.

Government is the god of atheists. They’re always “going to church”.

Exactly, politics is religion for atheists. by definition they are humanist and politics is the mechanism for atheists’ to employ their humanist beliefs, like religion is the mechanism for believers to practice their faith.

Atheist is just a fancy word for “freedom-hating communist”.

There really are no atheists. Government is their god.

Just like many who proclaim to be believers, many fail to live like Christ as well.

Why should atheists be any less faithless to their beliefs? ;)

This is because, as stated several times, their Socialist Government IS their Religion.

which is, of course, exactly what you could say about any particular cohort of people...

I’ll take "cultural conservatism", even cultural hypocrisy, over lawlessness and libertinism. "Hypocrisy is the compliment vice pays to virtue"—La Rochefoucald. An atheist might think it’s better to be frankly, publicly evil but society works better when people even pretend to be good (for the greater good), something this generation knows zip about. (Of course I’m not recommending personal hypocrisy before God, just the societal kind the Baron's maxim referred to above)

IMHO, for the past decade or so the freedom-hating communists aren't mainly atheists. They're hedonists. Hedonists, for the most part, are agnostic (modern definition) in that they don't care to figure out whether or not God exists, or if they think God exists then He's not important enough to them to make most major life decisions by.

Focusing on atheism as the political enemy today is as misleading as in centuries past when the churches of western Europe and eastern Europe saw each other as the main enemy while ignoring invading Muslims that were taking over much of Christendom in the Middle East and parts of Europe.

So yes, I wish public schools would quit mandating the Darwinist world-view and such (atheism). But the main enemy against Christians right now in the U.S. are the hedonists.

The Republican Party sucks but it’s the best thing we have to fight the Democrats. It’s not blindness. The choice is vote Republican or don’t vote. I will vote Republican before I ever don’t vote. That’s not blind.

They have the upper hand. Just look around. We’ve had 3 election cycles to deal with this since’18. 2022 was a disappointment no matter how you look at it. 3 seat majority in the house, Nevada governorship-not much to be proud of. Losing a senate seat was unforgivable.

Blaming cheats is a waste of time. 3 elections and we don’t learn. Any of you counting on getting it right in ‘24? What have we done to followup on the overturning of Roe?

They’re also far more organized and have a lot more political fire than we do. We mostly just want to be left alone. They want your money and your kids.
