It was 2014, and in a building in St Petersburg, the Russian Internet Research Agency (IRA) was already hard at work building its arsenal to take on US politics.
According to US prosecutors, the IRA had gathered stolen identities of real Americans, and a formidable encyclopaedia of what "works" on social media when it comes to riling up Americans talking about politics. Two members of the agency were said to have travelled to the US to gather more intelligence, a fact-finding tour taking in nine states, according to investigators.
Back on Russian soil, the IRA began posing online as US volunteers in order to gather tips on how to effectively target voters.

And you would be 100% right!
State funded media
“If someone wonders how there could be so many scum who support Putin and repeat his lies here on Free Republic here is some info on where they are coming from. I have long suspected that Russian trolls are here infecting this site and this this is evidence.”
Prima facie evidence you are stupid and paranoid.
“....targeting voters...”
explain fuller - give an example - what was their stated goal?
When will the BBC do a story on the British Troll Farm the 77th Brigade and its propaganda operations online?
Never mind...
According to people like you, anyone who questions the mainstream narrative must be a Russian troll. There is no room for any other opinions.
Yhup, that is what Russia is and was. And you are a supporter of them.
They were trying to stir hate and confusion to both sides.
.
If the propaganda coming from both sides were based in any way on reality, there would be no men left in either Russia or Ukraine. All would have been killed in the war that has been going on at their border over the past 15 months.
Let’s send Ukraine more money, and maybe a few American fighting men and women (preferably from conservative states) to see if we can add some U.S. casualty numbers for CNN to report upon daily. No need for an accounting of those funds though, for in the past few years, Ukraine has gone from one of the most corrupt countries in the world, to one of this nation’s most trusted partners.
I have no dog in this fight. However, to suggest that we should believe anything reported to us by media on either side, shows a misguided trust in our government agencies and the mockingbird media. When is the last time they reported the truth on any issue?
It’s actually rather easy to spot the bots. It’s a bit like those compilations of local news shows here in the US saying exactly the same thing. US government talking points.
On Twitter there will be an avatar of some pretty woman who is tweeting Russian talking points. Different woman, different name, same posts.
Anyone paying attention sees the same in reverse also. Spy vs. spy stuff.
This site doesn’t have the same thing; it doesn’t have the reach that Twitter does.

First: " 'Trump is our only hope for a better future!' read another just under a month later."
Being pro-Trump is now evidence for the BBC of Russian trolling?
Second: Four uses of the term, "alleged" and "allegedly."
Third: The source for the article: "Here's how US investigators say the Russians did it."
As to indictments, let us recall that indicted NYC DA Trump, while other Democrats are waiting in line to disrupt his candidacy for the 2024 election. So as to these unnamed "US investigators," please read the article again to find actual, identifiable sources. Then consider that the BBC regularly has "campaigned" against Trump. And finally realize that this "news" refers to the Robert Mueller investigation in 2018. Why then?
Because this "proof" of the Russian troll farm comes from a BBC article also dated 2018. Five years ago, and at the height of the Russiagate narrative so beloved of the Democrats who were running that scam, as the Durham report verifies.
Trolling all around. Let us not repeat the Russiagate narrative, intended to sully Trump, which the current Durham report disproves.
