Fernando Aguirre (Ferfal) told an interesting story about his home country of Argentina. One time, the government decided to defund the police. Of course, crime shot up, but in short order, Argentinians were shooting and stringing up the criminals.
Things got so bad that the criminals begged the police to come back, which they did, only a couple weeks after the whole sordid experiment started. It seems three hots and a cot in jail were preferable to massive violence being committed against their persons.
So to those who say violence never solved anything: Ptooey!
