The commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer John Finn was relieved of command Friday.
Cmdr. Angela Gonzales was relieved “due to a loss of confidence in her ability to fulfill her responsibilities in leading the ship,” according to a brief Navy statement issued Saturday.
As is the case with nearly every Navy CO firing, no other information was provided regarding the reasons for Gonzales being relieved of command.
John Finn is assigned to U.S. 7th Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan.
Cmdr. Matthew Hays has assumed interim commanding officer duties, and Gonzales has been reassigned to Naval Surface Force Pacific.

“The U.S. Navy holds commanding officers to a very high standard and holds them accountable when those standards are not met,” the Navy said in the statement. “They are expected to maintain the Navy’s high standards for leadership, demonstrating competence in their duties at all times.”

My brother's son is on that ship he said she never backed up the Chiefs and was running the worst ship he was ever on. They ended up writing a letter to the Navy bosses under the open door policy. Almost everyone on the ship signed it. Next thing you [know] she was gone.
They’ll quietly promote her to rear admiral in a few months.

She must have been bad for the navy to give up a two-fer on DEI. A woman latino...fired from command. That’s going to hurt their DEI metrics.
Women have zero business commanding a surface combatant ship.

At sea, Commander Gonzales served aboard USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) as the Main Propulsion Officer,
USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47) as the Auxiliaries Officer
USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) as the Operations Officer.
She also pre-commissioned the USS ZUMWALT (DDG 1000) as the Combat Systems Officer. She has completed four deployments to the Indo-Pacific and Arabian Gulf regions in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
For her shore assignment she served as a Placement Officer and Detailer in the Surface Officer Career Management Division (PERS-41) at Navy Personnel Command.
She attended the Naval Postgraduate School where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies (Western Hemisphere).

I just assumed the captain used the wrong pronouns for someone so they were going to keel haul her. THEN do something bad.

Well, this particular one sure as hell had no business doing so.
The US military’s wokism is going to cost us a lot of personnel and assets.
Naval Academy 2004. She’ll serve out one more year and leave. That’s how it’s done in today’s Navy.
I like the new IRA-like retirement plan. Anyone can leave at any time with a nest egg. I’ve seen too many career enlisted men who were very bitter and couldn’t wait to get out after 20. The ‘lifers’ were real vegetables.
