Over the weekend, a rapidly intensifying region of thunderstorms in the western Pacific culminated in the formation of Typhoon Mawar.

The movement of this storm is projected to affect the Mariana Islands, including the US territory of Guam, as early as Tuesday. There is a risk of wind speeds above 75mph, with torrential rain.

Minmal typhoon = a day out of school for kids. N0t a big deal.

I was always happy for these to come when I lived there.

Yeah Guam is gonna flood and tip over. Let’s not forget that the PI and the volcanoes blowing up. The ultimate 1-2-punch is a layer of volcanic ash followed by heavy rain.

Yeah, despite the impressively good organization, there’s likely not enough time and warm water between Mawar and Guam for the storm to intensify to monster status.

What happens when the storm gets to the Philippine Sea may be a different story. Luzon (northern Philippines) needs to keep a careful watch...

It’s the Pacific, lots of warm water to feed large Typhoons/Hurricanes/Tropical Cyclones...
