If you live anywhere in New York outside of the Big Apple and you’ve been watching the local news, there is one story absorbing most of the coverage and it involves busloads of migrants heading for suburban and rural counties. To say that people are unhappy about these developments would be an understatement, and that includes many self-described Democrats. But the state’s Democratic Governor, Kathy Hochul, appears to be tone-deaf on the subject, even as she attempts to put some political spin on the plans being cooked up by her and Mayor Eric Adams. On Monday evening, she appeared to lose her patience and told reporters that these rural counties need to “end their bigoted policies” and “accept” the migrants. (Daily Caller)
Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said Monday that the New York City suburbs should end their “bigoted policies” and accept migrants.
Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams has begun sending migrants to suburban communities such as Rockland County, prompting many localities to declare states of emergencies. Officials in Rockland County have asked Adams not to send migrants to their area, calling the move “absurd.”
“There is nothing humanitarian about a Sanctuary City sending busloads of people to a County that does not have the infrastructure to care for them,” County Executive Ed Day said recently.
In order to try to lay a guilt trip on her own citizens, Hochul is portraying the migrants as “hopeful immigrants seeking work.” She described thousands of agricultural jobs that they could fill. She’s even demanding that the federal government issue all of them work permits.
Much like the Biden administration and most Democrats, New York’s Governor seems to be forgetting or simply ignoring Title 8 U.S.C § 1324. It is a federal crime to knowingly employ an illegal alien. But apparently, in the clown world that we now occupy under the Biden administration, such matters are simply minor inconveniences to be swatted away with a few comments about racist MAGA Republicans.
The mood around the state is clearly souring and the Democrats may wind up paying a steep price for this at the polls next year. This was never how the system was designed to work. Legal immigrants used to apply to come to our country and identify a family member or sponsor that could help them get established. They would then work and eventually be allowed to apply for citizenship.
The situation in New York and around the rest of the country looks nothing like that today. New York City’s sanctuary city policies completely collapsed the first time they were put to a serious test. And now they are trying to foist their problem off on suburban and rural counties without anywhere near the resources to deal with that many people. And yet again, I will remind you that these are people that should have been expelled from the country for violating our immigration laws, not refugees.
So if Hochul and Adams fail to force the migrants into rural hotels and school gymnasiums, what’s their next move? The Governor is considering moving them into airplane hangers at JFK airport. We’re coming up on Memorial Day weekend and the summer travel season. Where does she think the airlines are going to keep all of the planes? She needs to stop asking the Biden administration for funding or housing and tell the President to come pick up his migrants and send them back to their home countries.
Meanwhile, from Erie County and Mark Poloncarz...
Being a sanctuary city sounds nice until you actually have to be one. Value signaling has its consequences.
Keepin’ it classy.
I liked it better when politicians made a phony pretense of being gracious to their “esteemed colleagues across the aisle.” Now they just let the venom drool.
Aren’t the cities/towns notified first so they can make accommodations? If so, I’d meet the buses and prohibit the bus drivers to let anyone out and to turn around and go back where they came from.
Again, they are not really “migrants” if their first act across the border was to violate a federal law and become an “illegal.”
Otherwise a shopper who paid for merchandise and left a store, and a person in jail for stealing hundreds of dollars worth of goods from the store, would both be equally praiseworthy. To Dems, they are.
In the Suburbs?
Quite frankly right now very few places in the north need agricultural workers of any type.
In the fall yeah, you might need some fruit pickers. But right now we got nothing.
“Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said Tuesday that an unknown number of people who have been forced out of their own countries by authoritarian rulers or for other serious life-threatening reasons are expected to arrive soon in the Buffalo area. And none of them will be turned away, he said.”
I grew up in a rural part of Erie County. It was great.
Even 15 years ago, I chose to not move back there as a retirement location option.
This month, that turns out to have been an excellent decision.
Today, I’d never move there. Erie County is already a Border County, which used to be a plus in the 50s/60s. This County Twerp is unAmerican. Now I won’t even go back to visit.
Hey New Yawk! You voted for her! Embrace the suck!!! LOL.
I just wrote my Republican State Senator, and told him to ask Kathy Hochul why she doesn’t use all the prisons she and Andrew Cuomo have closed over the years, to house illegals. They shouldn’t be sent to college campuses as they have contemplated doing. Campus security officers have enough on their hands dealing with the crap that goes on with the students. Why throw illegals into the mix. Sad thing is that despite the majority of the counties in NY being red, the State Legislature has a more than 2-1 Democrat ratio in both Houses. They gave Cuomo, and now Hochul, anything they want.
I agree. New York City does love immigration, after all.
The suburbs don’t virtue signal they are Sanctuary Cities.
Sanctuary Cities should live up to their words and take in the illegals they have no problem with illegally crossing our borders.
I hate to say it, but NY’ers elected this arrogant, condescending beotch, and now they’re getting what they voted for, good and hard. Perhaps this can be a teachable moment?
There moving from Florida to New York…E Verify is effect down here now…
Left the state in 1980…best thing I ever did..I do miss fishing in the Lake George area..
There is plenty of room in the countries they left. Send their arses back.
They are foreign national invaders, and the Democrat party owns them.
Oneida County, where I grew up has said no illegals, as has most upstate counties
OK, Kathy, start with Chappaqua and Katonah, then continue with the Hamptons.
If you dare.
Diversity is our weakness.
