Texas House of Representatives votes to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton

The Texas House of Representatives has voted to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton, an unprecedented move following a legislative probe that faulted the third-term Republican for a yearslong pattern of corruption, including abusing his office’s powers, retaliating against whistleblowers and obstructing justice.

Under state law, Paxton is now temporarily suspended from his duties as attorney general and will await a Senate trial.

The vote was 121-23, with two members voting “present.”

“The evidence is substantial. It is alarming and unnerving,” said GOP Rep. Andrew Murr, chair of the General Investigating Committee, during his closing statement following hours of debate. The committee recommended 20 counts of impeachment against Paxton.

Democrat Rep. Harold Dutton was one of the members voting present. He said the impeachment vote had been rushed. “The process by which we’re getting this done seems to be abbreviated to the point that it just encroaches on due process,” said Dutton.

There are so many machinations here, but Paxton won overwhelmingly(with over 4 million votes), in one of the states with transparent voting laws.

Seems to me it's, "The Revenge of the Bush's".

When the DEMOCRAT is the sane one in the room, it looks as if Texas is in dire straits.

I watched the proceedings. Dutton WAS the sane voice. This process was done in secret and the House was given 72 hours notice for the vote today. First time this kind of process has ever been done for an impeachment in Texas. No public hearings, no sworn witness statements, no cross examination, no chance for Paxton's lawyers to rebut. Pure political retribution. Shameful.

Have no idea, but Dan Patrick(Lt. Governor) is basically the head of the Texas senate.

Don't know what his position is in this process.

“The evidence is substantial. It is alarming and unnerving,” said GOP Rep. Andrew Murr, chair of the General Investigating Committee,”

And absolutely none of it has been presented to us. Which probably means this entire thing is a scam on the level of the Trump impeachments.

According to Paxton he was. That’s the impetus for this proceeding. Pure retribution.

The republicans can either show us the evidence or they can buzz off. I can’t form an opinion on Paxton without provable facts.

“Any ideas on how the Texas senate will vote?”

The Republicans in the Texas Senate, including his wife, Sen. Angela Paxton, will all stand behind Ken Paxton.

“Have no idea, but Dan Patrick(Lt. Governor) is basically the head of the Texas senate.”

Not only will Dan Patrick have Ken Paxton’s back, but Ryan Patrick, Dan Patrick’s son who was on the investigative committee.

It looks to me like its a hurry up job with the dirty work to be hidden during the Memorial Day holiday. This Phelan clown who is the House Speaker has repeatedly sided with the Democrats who are the minority in the Texas House, hasn’t he? I suspect the wretched Bush family are involved here due to Paxton defeating their heir by a 2-1 margin in the R primary.

The Senate has a 19- 12 GOP majority. A 2/3 vote is required to convict (i. e. 21 votes). Paxton will be able to mount a defense. Paxton is an enigma for conservatives. He consistently takes bold conservative positions, while at the same time he is personally corrupt . We’ll see how much stench the Senate Republicans can stomach.

I sure hope so, but it bugs me that he’s now suspended until the trial takes place. What the devil is going on down there in Texas with the GOP that let this get to this point?

The rino/rat cadre is a de facto blue wall in Texas. So many good bills have died in the TX House

Every single search engine features damning articles from the same sources: Axios, CNBC, CNN, Politico, AP, you name it. All of them went at least five pages deep. We even had one entity on this website putting forth Wikipedia as a “source” for the crimes committed by Ken Paxon.

I don’t know Texas politics. But I hold onto Texas and Florida as two places where, if this country is saved, the effort may emanate from them.

And I don’t know Ken Paxton.

I am not so naive as to think Republicans don’t engage in subterfuge and featherbedding using the power of their office although in general, they don’t jump into bed with enemies of this Republic as readily and frequently as Democrats do. So I try to keep as much of an open mind as I can, although the frequency and virulence of Leftists in power (in league with weak or compromised RINOs) makes it nearly impossible to be impartial.

I am hoping someone with an understanding of Texas politics might explain this in terms the rest of us can relate to.
