When I had horses, the vet would use that when she came out to float their teeth. I had big, goofy 1100 pound critters on my hwnds for a couple of hours afterwards.

It is also used for conscious sedation for procedures in hospitals for humans. It has been for quite a long time.
They use it for setting displaced closed fractures, cardioversion, dislocated shoulder….
