But,as I suggested...it's easy to see why the Army wouldn't have wanted him. I joined rather than wait to be drafted so I don't know if they could have said something like "OK,we'll draft you and fix the problem once you're in". I don't know if anything like that was ever done.
After losing the many years of deferments for school, it was fortunate that his personal doctor informed the draft board that he now had bone spurs.
The loss of course is that since no one in his family or family line has ever served America in uniform they don’t have any of that experience in their DNA
