Senate Passes Repeal Of Biden’s Student Loan Cancellation Program—With Some Democrats’ Support

The Senate voted to overturn President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program Thursday in a symbolic rebuke of the plan that would partially forgive debts of an approximately 40 million borrowers—but despite picking up a few Democratic supporters, the GOP-backed legislation is doomed to fail as Biden has vowed to veto it.

The Senate voted 52-46, with Democratic Sens. John Tester (Mont.) and Joe Manchin (W.Va.), along with independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), joining Republicans.

The vote came less than a week after the GOP-controlled House passed the same measure 218-203, with moderate Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) voting “yes” along with Republicans.

The White House has vowed to veto the bill, and neither chamber is likely to have the two-thirds majority vote needed to override it.

The resolution would eliminate the Biden Administration’s program to forgive $10,000 in federal loans for student borrowers whose income is below a certain threshold, and $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients—a plan that the Supreme Court is also considering rejecting.

I suspect Biden’s Democrat advisors knew all along this “loan forgiveness” wasn’t going to work.

But they cynically abused the law, and gained some media talking points and PR for the previous midterms, and it only cost a $$ billions...

We should press for debt forgiveness for all that owe debts to the IRS. See if the Democrats choke on that.

I believe the Senate Dims don’t want to do the loan payoffs yet, it’s too early and voters have short memories. They want to keep it alive as an issue for the next election so they can dangle it as an extra carrot in front of young adults while saying Republicans are evil.

Now they need to change that goofyass “reparations” program for African slaves to a “REPATRIATION” program. Send them back to the lives they missed in Africa while they were forced to live in America and vote for Democrats.

How can any president just give away billions of dollars without at least getting congressional authorization?

This is back- asswards.

Congress shouldn’t need to stop any expenditure or five - away. Congress is there to appropriate it in the first place (or not).

Which Biden will veto and that veto will not be over ridden - not enough votes.

Irrelevant and will go nowhere and is unconstitutional to begin with. An irrelevant law that won’t pass is just that.

Why should Biden care? The point was to win votes in the 2022 election by promising to cancel the debts. The election is over.

How would this be unconstitutional?

Also it looks like it will pass, though be vetoed by Biden.

The student loan debt cancellation is unconstitutional. Biden can’t do that only Congress can.

This bill is irrelevant like 90% are anyway. The bill blocks Biden from doing something unconstitutional which is covered by the constitution.

To follow up, the law won’t pass because Biden will veto it. No law is enacted unless signed by the President and as we can see by the border, this POS doesn’t think he needs to follow laws enacted.

“...No law is enacted unless signed by the President...”
-
More correctly:
No law is enacted unless not vetoed
by the President within 10 days of passage.
(a Presidential signature is not required)
