US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm got an up-close look at the opportunities of offshore wind power on a ferry tour of the Block Island wind farm Friday, then discussed the challenges the industry faces at a roundtable discussion at a Quonset Development Corporation building here.
“It’s such an amazing time, and we cannot squander it,” Granholm said at the roundtable. “I keep saying your hair has to be on fire.” Rhode Island, she said, is doing that.
“Your hair is so on fire, you have a hat on,” she told the state’s acting energy commissioner, Chris Kearns, who was wearing a hat, prompting hearty laughs in a crowd filled with green-energy advocates, labor leaders, and reporters.

The greeniacs went insane over a few offshore oil rigs off the California coast, claiming they despoiled the views. Now the same lunatics are ok with tens of thousands of these infernal, wasteful, horrible capacity factor, intermittent, utterly useless, whale-killing machines on the ocean.
The opportunities to obtain huge government subsidies.
Make this crap compete without our tax dollars!!!
On shore wind power is expensive
The ocean is a very unforgiving environment for manmade devices, so these wind turbines will have to be very sturdily built and therefore VERY expensive.
Most will fail before they ever recover the cost to build them.
But, that doesn’t matter because they will mostly be funded by the Federal government and favorable regulations requiring their owners be given favorable contracts for the purchase of their power.
Just think of the corrosion on off shore wind infrastructure. Maintenance alone must cost a fortune.
With humanity’s very survival on the line, the whales may get to get the last word before their extinction ... now that the windmills are on ‘full steam ahead’ to keep those cars charged ...
They will not only kill whales but all marine life that cannot flee the area. Commercial fishing in the area will cease as will many seafood restaurants.
Many think windmill platforms are like oil rigs - attracting sea life - but they are not. These platforms vibrate constantly, and the underwater cables emit current that either kills or confuses sea life navigation.
Her pants are on fire too.
Read that however you want.
Build these off the shore of the rich homes, like Obama’s. They need power, so here it is.
They will also be a navigation hazard
Subsurface Power cable is also very expensive, how many miles of it will need be made to serve these monstrosities?
Copper is already in short supply. The power generated by these windmills do not justify the copper in their windings.
What about the seabirds that will be killed by them?
I don’t see how a Environmental Impact assessment could justify the construction of these manmade evils.
“These [windmill power generation] platforms vibrate constantly”
Under water, the sound can be detected, 45 miles away.
When the windmill burns up on land, it often sits there for many weeks, sometimes months, unattended. You can see “the black windmills” from miles away. At sea, such windmills would be a total loss.
20 years from now, all the rich folk on Block Island are going to be staring at rusting hulks of decommissioned windmills, and arguing about who’s going to pay the $$ billions to remove them from the ocean.
We know exactly how these installations passed the environmental impact assessments. It was like the same way some people break the law and get away scot free while others are held to the strictest standards. Grease the right palms and there is no law…
This Rhode Island-based organization makes strong arguments against offshore wind power, it’s an amazing resource. The wind power industrial complex hates them.
SMDH! Dumbassery writ YUGE
Too soon?
Kennedys and all the elites on Martha’s Vineyard all oppose offshore wind farms within sight of the thier estates.
Hypocrites, they also burn plenty of fuel jetting in from the hamptons.
