A pair of senior partners at the California-based mega-law firm Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith split from the company last month to build their own “compassionate” firm, but internal emails show they used wildly offensive and demeaning language — repeatedly referring to women as “c–ts” and a judge as “sugar t-ts.” *** Before the two labor lawyers suddenly defected in May and took more than 100 Lewis Brisbois employees with them, Barber spent more than 25 years with the firm and Ranen worked there for 20.
Their rationale for leaving was to “build something that’s reflective of our values and our beliefs,” Barber told Above The Law.
“We wanted to lead with empathy, collaboration and compassion, to do it our way and not have any baggage,” Ranen [said] ***
“Kill her by anal penetration,” Barber emailed Ranen ***On at least three occasions, Ranen described female attorneys as “c–ts.”
In a March 2022 missive, a Los Angeles judge was described as “sugar t-ts.” when Barber joked about how the judge liked to be addressed.
In a November 2012 note, Ranen noted to Barber that another partner has “huge t–s.” That female partner has since decamped to Ranen and Barber’s new firm.
In November 2013, Barber was told by a Lewis Brisbois partner that people were upset during a mediation because of a witness’ frequent use of the N-word.
“She doesn’t want the word n—-r used in her presence. She claims it was used with great liberality, unnecessarily so… and she found it very offensive,” the partner emailed him.
Barber responded snidely. “Got it. N—r. Don’t use.” He spelled the slur out in full.
In October 2012 Barber responded to an email about attending a baby shower with the subject line “N—r” — again spelled out in full.***

I like “Can’t Understand Normal Thinking”, myself.
nah, i’m just pointing out the shock and outrage in the comments. when fellow freeps use the same terminology, they get an atta boy.
if it is wrong, it is wrong, is all.
I also think these are just words and take care of it yourself if you are offended. Can’t imagine suing someone, but they’d get a hard slap and my notice over sugar tits or the other word.
whatever. If it is wrong for those guys ( because they are libs) then its wrong for you holy rollers.
It’s more about the hypocrisy, than the language.
c* - in-house or opposing lawyers?
Given that women are about half of law school graduates, crude negative references to women should not be used.
The term ‘N-word’ is normally used for reference purposes.
If I had to use a lawyer, I would want one that uses language carefully.
One should never possibly cause needless offense.
You take the jab you get what you get. Not my concern for those who did. Just saying no to government BS is easy it’s called self preservation.
my point exactly!!! It’s a sin to the bible bangers, but if they are talking a bout a woman they don’t like, then it’s suddenly okay. Encouraged even ( almost)
“used vile language...emails show”
One should be especially careful when communicating electronically since machines often never forget.
That seems all in order.
Kill her with anal sex?
Good lord
Anal is a delicate matter for folks who enjoy it I reckon and from a gal who likes it and is willing to be in a somewhat submissive compromised sex act with a man she has complete trust in
It’s sure not something to treat violently
Nor is any sex though it can get passionate
Kids call it “railing”….hard intercourse that is
Lol I’m told old for all that
I’ve always really loved physical and emotional intimacy with a comely lady as much or more than anything in this life
But never attributed harshness to the act
This sounds like something homosexual men would say about straight people having sex
Spoken like a true bankwalker lol
The C word should be reserved for only the one in a thousand most egregious harridan
I think honestly I’ve used it twice in 65 years
Brits use it like commonly
But on men too
Like being an ass or jerk
I think I used it as dishes were flying at me as in “you’re acting like a c word “
We’re taking 80s
You’ll agree, won’t you? that truly stunning stunts are more than occasionally pulled against long-suffering Martians by the abusive Venutians among us.
They arguably don’t deserve to have such softened language used in reference to their impunitious behavior.
But, yet, they continue to benefit from the desire on the part of some to remain at least technically polite in the hopes of avoiding escalating overall tensions.
Hence the stunt term you protest so much.
Oh no...don’t let ronniesgal see that...😬
LOL...one of my faves!
What people’s personal opinions are is irrelevant and their business. Their mistake was communicating them on a company email. That was just plain stupid.
Intelligent people realized decades ago that it was a bad idea to put anything in writing that would cause issues if the wrong person saw it.
These executives were obviously not wise.
Back in the 1990s, a company I worked for had someone reading every outgoing email, looking for disclosures of trade secrets. I imagine these days there are AI looking through them.
i cuss all the time- I never say that, and i know what you mean by the British. Irish too!
I also don’t pretend to be holy. So many here do.
ummm,okay. Have a nice evening.
