We live in a complex world. Recently Trump was accused of saying nice things about an extremely despotic Communist of N Korea. As president he said nice things about Putin. But when Trump was president, Putin did not attack Ukraine. During Obama and Biden Putin did attack Ukraine. The reason is obvious. Trump followed the advice of another Republican: Speak Softly and carry a big stick.
So look at the total complex package, the Republican coalition, the free world coalition.
George W. Bush said nice things about Pooty-Poot too. Said he'd looked in to Putin's eyes, and saw his soul. Hosted him at his Texas ranch. I don't remember Democrats or the media having a conniption fit about it at the time.
