Ukraine's military said on Tuesday that Russian forces blew up a major dam in southern Ukraine, while Moscow-installed official in the city of Nova Kakhovka in the Russian-controlled parts of the Kherson region denied it.
"The Kakhovka (reservoir) was blown up by the Russian occupying forces," the South command of Ukraine's Armed Forces said on Tuesday on its Facebook page.
"The scale of the destruction, the speed and volumes of water, and the likely areas of inundation are being clarified."
Reuters was unable to immediately verify the Ukrainian statement.
Earlier, Russian state news agency quoted the Moscow-installed mayor of Nova Kakhovka as denying the reports.

One consequence of this, maybe, is that the canal to Crimea is cut. This is intended to provide agricultural irrigation, so may not be significant in the short term.
This canal was blocked from 2014 and only restored in 2022. I guess its probably out again.
“Ukraine Says Russia Blows up Major Nova Kakhovka Dam in Southern Ukraine”
LOL.
"This will be FUN to post!!
Maybe neither blew it up on purpose. It finally gave way after shelling damage?

I believe this is the same dam that people speculated would be destroyed in the spring of 2022 to keep Russia from advancing further west. Seems the tide has turned.
All of the land mines that Russia laid on the occupied bank of the Dnipro are being washed downstream.
PS .. There’s no reason for the Russians would do this. It would be COMPLETELY counterproductive for them.

Russian defensive trenches near the river are flooding now.
curious to see if the usual suspects seem to have coordinated talking points over the next day.
none of that here. they blow up their own pipelines too.
critical thinking need not apply.
heck, even marcus is describing the damage to defensive preparations they have allegedly done to themselves.
Russians are not smart. They just washed away all of their land mines that used to be on the occupied bank of the river. And now videos of their flooded defensive trenches are appearing.
you need to request some better talking points rather than improvise yourself. what you are saying now just sounds silly to anyone still paying attention.
if you need, I can come up with some for you in the interim.
Videos of flooded Russian trenches on the river are appearing on Twitter already.
exactly. so you need to try a different angle on this. just saying ‘russians no smart’ is a weak effort.
I would downplay the damage to russian defenses as it suggests that ukraine benefits.
you have to realize, even people who support your group’s efforts doubt that russian destroyed their own pipeline. they are not going to believe that russia destroyed their own defensive line.
Ukraine did it to it off the north Crimean canal that is the main water supply. As a secondary it’ll flood the Russian side of the river. Idiot Nazi Ukes again. Russia had no advantage from doing it, only negatives. Ukraine did it, likely with Brit assistance.

Maybe, but they are not STUPID. The Ukrainians hold the right bank (that’s the bank to the west of the river for you riparian challenged) and the Russians hold the left bank. The right bank in Kherson (held by the Ukrainians) is ALL HIGH GROUND and NOT SUBJECT TO FLOODING. The left bank of the river there is all HELD BY THE RUSSIANS and is ALL LOW GROUND and is BEING FLOODED.
The Ukrainians did this without a doubt in my military mind.
What weapon did Ukraine use to blow the dam?
