I saw it in the theater as a kid. All I remember is some great racing footage. We painted some of my 1/24 scale slot cars with the Gulf colors.

Gulf gas stations in the Midwest sold 917 models, about a foot long, in the movie Gulf-Porsche colors, as a promotion.
Had one until the dog killed it.
