“I have to be outta here by 5 because the babysitter has to leave”.
When the earthquake in the 1990’s damaged the Santa Monica Freeway——C C Meyers got the contract.
IIRC He signed for a penalty of $1 Million a day penalty for every day the project was late——
BUT that same agreement said he got $1 MILLION a day bonus for every day early.
He hired construction workers from all over the USA. In January, the upper 3rd of the US isn’t doing much construction. HE hired them. He hired a high number of demolition guys-—nothing can move forward until debris moved out.
He rented an apartment complex that had just opened to HOUSE his workers.....right by the freeway. He Paid the best wages.
He went on TV & announced that they would be working 24/7 and using Hollywood style Klieg Lights-—but they would get the freeway opened sooner. Told local residents to just hold on.
When Calif state engineers wanted 4” rebar & 6’ across pylons for support at streets & overpasses, C.C. said “I will use 6” rebar & 8 foot pylons-—sign the damn papers & quit stalling me.
C C got a $63 MILLION BONUS for opening up the freeway early. He had his accountants calculate ALL the hours done by the various groups—demo—grading—everything down to signs.
ALL the employees who stuck out the hard work got the $63 Million bonus-—divided up among them. C C didn’t keep any of it.
Some time later, When San Francisco had a fuel truck on a curved ramp go off & crash/burn, C C Meyers got that job, also-—and finished ahead of contract. Similar to current bridge problem on I-95.
Philly is a gay haven, so he went there.
Has there been any report on the name and nationality of the driver of the truck?
Did he ride his bike while escorted by SUV carrying security forces?
Is that the NJ Gov?
Yep. Sounded like an average guy doing his regular route. US Military veteran. Likely a mechanical failure caused the crash.
That happened to an old neighbor o mine in the 1970’s. Brand new front tire blew out. The tanker rolled and exploded. He barely made it out alive
That’s an image I wish I had never imagined.
