Russians tend to be very cautious.

“FIRST...THEN...THEN...THEN”

There are many reasons why Putin felt compelled to act.

Unfortunately, the reasons to have acted may not outweigh the reasons to have not acted.

To save around a million ethnic Russians from Ukrainian hostile action may not have been worth the 100,000+ Russian lives now lost.

It is very important to realize the misery of the Russian/Ukraine conflict stems from Ukrainian elections that were not trustworthy.

YEA!

good ol’ convicted felon Martin Armstrong is back on FR shillin’ for the russkies again!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_A._Armstrong

In 1999, Japanese fraud investigators accused Armstrong of collecting money from Japanese investors, improperly commingling these funds with funds from other investors, and using the fresh money to cover losses he had incurred while trading.[13] United States prosecutors called it a three-billion-dollar Ponzi scheme.[14] Allegedly assisting Armstrong in his scheme was the Republic New York Corporation, which produced false account statements to reassure Armstrong’s investors. In 2001, the bank agreed to pay US$606 million as restitution for its part in the scandal.[14]

Armstrong was indicted in 1999 and ordered by Judge Richard Owen to turn over fifteen million dollars in gold bars and antiquities bought with the fund’s money; the list included bronze helmets and a bust of Julius Caesar.[15][16] Armstrong produced some of the items but claimed the others were not in his possession; this led to several contempt of court charges brought by the SEC and the CFTC, for which he served seven years in jail until he reached a plea bargain with federal prosecutors.[17][18][19] Under the terms of the agreement, Armstrong admitted to deceiving corporate investors and improperly commingling client funds—actions that according to prosecutors resulted in commodities losses of more than seven hundred million dollars—and was sentenced to five years in prison.[20][15]

He was released from federal custody on 2 September 2011 after serving a total of eleven years behind bars.[21][22]

The case against Armstrong was finally closed in 2017, with the distribution of about $80 million to claim holders by the receiver, according to court filings.[23] Armstrong appealed the refusal of the receiver to transport his remaining possessions from storage lockers in New York and Pennsylvania to him in Florida, but the appeal failed in 2019. Concerning his felony conviction, Armstrong is “unrepentant”, according to Bloomberg.[1]
Hidden rare coins cache

In 2014, a day laborer sold a box of 58 rare coins—which he said he had found while clearing out the basement of a house in New Jersey—to a Philadelphia thrift shop for $6,000. Three years later, in 2017, when the thrift shop announced they were to auction the coins—valued at $2.5 million—Armstrong came forward to declare himself to be the rightful owner. He claimed that he had hidden the coins in his mother’s old house to take them “off the books” in anticipation of the public offering of his firm. The thrift shop sued Armstrong, asking the court to declare the thrift shop as rightful owners while Armstrong counter-sued, also seeking ownership. In 2019 the US government found out about the coins and claimed them as part of the treasure hoard Armstrong had refused to hand over in 1999, and for which he had served seven years in jail for contempt. (In addition to rare coins, the treasure hoard—valued at $12.9 million—included 102 gold bars, 699 gold coins, and an ancient bust of Julius Caesar.)[24][25]

Armstrong was deposed and, according to Receiver Alan M. Cohen, Armstrong admitted hiding the coins. However, Armstrong’s attorneys said in a court filing that Armstrong did not make this admission. The auction house now possesses the coins and the US government has filed suit to take possession.[24][25]

Supporting information:

Who is Bandera: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepan_Bandera

2014 one of several pro Bandera rallies: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/01/01/ukraine-bandera/4279897/ ~15,000 show up at this single one.

Last year: https://www.timesofisrael.com/hundreds-of-ukrainian-nationalists-march-in-in-honor-of-nazi-collaborator/ That’s during a war and with folks telling them to cool it because of the PR damage.

How Bandera is viewed in Ukraine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commemoration_of_Stepan_Bandera look under Ukraine.

How about an actual Nazi party that got over 10% of the vote, and that vote was split with other ultra nationalist parties but at least not outright Nazi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svoboda_(political_party)

How about entire SS divisions being raised in the war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/14th_Waffen_Grenadier_Division_of_the_SS_(1st_Galician)

How about many of there folks giving the Heil Hitler salute, use of Nazi symbols? https://www.google.com/search?newwindow=1&client=firefox-b-1-lm&q=ukraine+nazi+symbols&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiwr-ej-NX_AhUhSzABHU5FBPYQ0pQJegQICxAB&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1

Take a look at the Azov unit symbol, what do you think that is based on? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_Brigade#/media/File%3AAZOV_logo.svg

What exactly is required to convince folks? In some cases it’s impossible.

Folks make up their opinion and rally around a cause and they do not want to hear contradicting information. They essentially “self censor.”

Do not confuse the concept of an enemy of your enemy being your friend with some great love for this new found friend. We were allied with Stalin in WWII.

In the 17th century “Poland” didn’t extend far to the east, the “Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth” did.

It was a multi ethnic, multi cultural country with Poles, Lithuanians, Ruthenians, Livonians, Jews etc.

The Ukrainian government suspended 11 political parties that have ties to the Kremlin.

Note “suspended” for tye duration of the war that the Kremlin initiated.

Note 11 parties out of the 300 odd parties in Ukraine.

Nite that these 11 parties together had about 10 to 11% of the seats in the Ukrainian parliament.

Poland as a people, and the Polish government have no intention of occupying land filled with non Poles. It gains Poland nothing.

That is just desperate Russian propaganda.

Poland doesn’t want it.

At best Poland would like to be able to visit Lwow/ Lviv, a Polish heritage site.

This would be analogous to Wroclaw/ Breslau. Germans can visit, live and work in Wroclaw today.

Lwów was always a Polish and Polish Jewish island in the middle of a Ruthenian sea, demographically speaking until 1945.

Today it is demographically Ukrainian.

Poland accepts its post war borders, as do its neighbours.

Poles have a sense of solidarity with Ukrainians. Especially since we helped their women and children.

The Ukrainians are fighting for their homes and loved ones.

Here is my prediction of what will happen when Ukraine wins this war and the fighting stops. Two important facts: Many Ukraine men have been killed and seriously wounded. There will be a tremendous building boom when peace returns. Here is one important way in which I expect these factors to influence the future of Polish/Ukraine relations.

There will be a significant number of Ukraine widows, and young girls becoming women soon. They will want husbands, and with a significant reduction in availability of suitable husband material among Ukrainian men, they will end up marrying a Pole, or a German, or even an emmigrated Russian (one who refused to fight for Putin). With the building boom in Ukraine there will be many well paid jobs and opportunities for starting small and larger businesses. I suspect Ukrainian wifes will be encouraging their foreign born husbands to move to Ukraine to improve the family fortunes. This is especially likely if the wife still has some family living in Ukraine to provide emotional and temporary housing support. These women will have children, and especially if there are other Ukrainian relatives, the Ukrainian language will be the language most learned, although the father’s language will also be part of their lives. In fact I suspect many Ukrainian children will grow up multilingual—mother’s tongue, father’s language, and Russian.

The children will tend to consider themselves Ukrainian rather than Polish, etc. Thus Ukraine despite this deadly war, will survive the terrible sacrifice of their young men, as Ukraine born wives save the heart of the nation.

With both their parents from East Prussia, I remember how my mother and her sisters visited Europe a number of times when boat passage was cheap during the Depression. One sister even married over there and was stuck in Europe for the entire WW2. My vivid memories of my mother and her siblings worrying about family and her sister in Europe influence my current concern and interest in this Russia/Ukraine war. I remember even better helping my mother prepare Red Cross packages to send to family over there during the difficult reconstruction period. My mother and siblings clearly felt themselves to be American because this is where they grew up. Their parents insisted on everyong speaking English, and the only one who learned his parents original language really well was cared for by his mother’s sister for 2 months of quarantined illness as a young child.

Silly stuff. Like most people, most countries — Poland included — have the sense to place current interests ahead of old grievances. Poland supports Ukraine because it is the best way to check Russia, which is an existential threat to Poland’s freedom.

This is something for you to investigate as it will effect every single living human being. Russia has extensively mined the power plant and its cooling system. Just as they did with the dam.

Zelensky addressed world leaders with a warning that Russia is preparing to undermine the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

“Our intelligence received information that Russia is considering a scenario of a terrorist attack at the ZNPP with a release of radiation.

“They have prepared everything for this.

“Unfortunately, I have repeatedly had occasion to remind that radiation does not know state borders, and who it hits is determined only by the direction of the wind.

“We pass on all available information to our partners, all evidence - Europe, America, China, Brazil, India, Africa, the Arab world - all countries and international organizations should know this.

This time it should not be like with Nova Kakhovka. The world has been warned.”

Russian officials said everything is going according to the Plan.
Part 1: Blow the Nova Kakhovka dam. DONE.
Part 2: Blow the Zaporizhia reactor complex. Pending.

[ ##•• It bears repeating: if the Russians and Putin go through with this plan, the release will render Ukraine and several surrounding countries uninhabitable, and if the cloud moves over Europe, it too will become uninhabitable. This will be the worst crisis in all of human history, bar the Mt. Toba eruption 74,000 years ago. ••## ]
