The multi-part hull of different materials should have been a red flag. I don’t know, I wasn’t there, but I would speculate that the titanium end-cap on the carbon fiber hull shrank just bit in the cold water causing torsional stress on the adhesive. At that depth, all it would take is a tiny crack in the joint for the whole thing to fail.
“Screwed and glued” carbon fiber bicycle frames had a history of failing and they were not under close to the amount of stress that sub was under.
