The entire thing is particularly galling to many, because ROVs can, and have, provided the same views/images, or better, than the passengers were getting from being down there in that carbon fiber coffin.
It is difficult to feel much compassion or remorse for people who had more wealth and luxury than the vast majority of humanity can even imagine, and they squandered their good fortune and comfortable lives on an entirely unnecessary, and ultimately fatal, trip.
Exactly..........
Exactly..........
The REALLY brave passenger trip is the next one down...
Not all wealthy people are bad people....in fact, only a couple I can think of. Many have provided millions of jobs etc etc.
Rich and evil are not synonyms.
And every voyage lends itself to improvement. This sub has been on many voyages.
There have been a lot of tasteless comments and memes about this. How could anyone sink so low. :)
What is ROV?
Sorry I am so stupid.
“It wasn’t a scientific expedition that was going to increase our understanding of anything.”
Today, what percentage of time is “science” used to increase our understanding versus to advance an agenda?
To me, it’s no different than the people who spend a bunch of money to climb Mt. Everest. Every year, it seems, some fools don’t make it back I’m sure if the sherpas were honest, they’d say a few of these folks had no business trying to climb the summit but they smiled and took the money because it’s easier to humiliate yourself before egotistical foreigners than to go hungry all year.
