Titan sub debris field: Parts of missing sub's cover found, expert says

Debris has been found in the search for the missing Titan submersible, reportedly including parts of its outside cover. Dive expert David Mearns told the BBC the president of the Explorers Club - which is connected to the diving and rescue community - says the debris includes "a landing frame and a rear cover from the submersible". The US Coast Guard earlier confirmed a "debris field" had been found within the search area. It was located by a remote-controlled underwater search vehicle (ROV) near the wreck of the Titanic. A US Coast Guard news conference is scheduled for 1500 EST (1900 GMT) on Thursday afternoon. The Titan vessel went missing in a remote area of the North Atlantic on Sunday with a four-day oxygen supply for its crew of five.

Some experts have speculated that it could have suffered a catastrophic implosion as a result of a hull failure. The minivan-sized submersible was owned and operated by the private company OceanGate Expeditions. The firm's co-founder, Guillermo Söhnlein, told the BBC that he believes there may have been an "instantaneous implosion" of the craft. "If that's what happened, that's what would have happened four days ago," he said.

But somehow that's who will be blamed for this. White men.

I’m at least glad the people died quickly in a likely instantaneous implosion, rather than running out of oxygen in the dark at the bottom of the sea.

May God bless them all.

Well, that oughta do it for any future sight-seeing trips to the Titanic.

RIP, folks. That sounds like a horrible way to go.

“At least there were no 50 year old white men designing the thing...“

I bet they were doing the searching though.

No shade on any other races and sexes participating. But the racist sexist comments about the 50 year olds did not age well.

The Navy likely knew it imploded but could not come out and say.

From Daily Mail:

The landing frame and rear cover of the missing Titan submersible have been discovered on the ocean floor, according to experts involved in the search, who say it points to the vessel suffering a ‘catastrophic implosion’ that will have claimed all five of the lives on board.

The US Coast Guard announced on Twitter that the ‘debris field’ had been found on Thursday. They are yet to confirm what exactly was discovered, but Richard Garriott, President of the Explorers’ Club, tells DailyMail.com his understanding from the teams involved in the search is that key components of the sub were among the items.

It would mean the sub suffered a crack and imploded under the underwater pressure, instantly killing all five men on board.

‘A debris field implies there’s a break up of the submersible and at that depth, because we know that they lost communications at around 3,300m… so that really indicates what is the worst case scenario which is a catastrophic failure, an implosion.

‘The only saving grace is that it would have been immediate, literally in milliseconds and the men would have no idea what was happening,’ David Mearns, a friend of two of the men on board, said during an appearance on Sky News in the UK this evening. He added: ‘My worst fears have now been realized.’
