The owner of the Wagner private military contractor made his most direct challenge to the Kremlin yet on Friday, calling for an armed rebellion aimed at ousting Russia’s defense minister. The security services reacted immediately by calling for the arrest of Yevgeny Prigozhin.
In a sign of how seriously the Kremlin was taking the threat, security was heightened in Moscow and in Rostov-on-Don, which is home to the Russian military headquarters for the southern region and also oversees the fighting in Ukraine.
While the outcome of the confrontation was still unclear, it appeared likely to further hinder Moscow's war effort as Kyiv's forces were probing Russian defenses in the initial stages of a counteroffensive.
Prigozhin claimed early Saturday that his forces had crossed into Russia from Ukraine and had reached Rostov, saying they faced no resistance from young conscripts at checkpoints and that his forces “aren’t fighting against children.”

Looks like Wagner has taken Rostov, and is in the process of taking Voronezh. If that’s the case, they’re already half way to Moscow.

The only possibility now is absolute obliteration, with the degree of resistance from the Wagner group being the only variable. Surovikin was dispatched to convince them to surrender. That is wishful, magical thinking with no basis in reality.

Wishful thinking? I'm not on team Wagner - a pox on both their houses. There's video all over Telegram claiming to depict firefights this morning in Voronezh. I have no way to confirm veracity but it seems like it could be real. Google maps shows traffic at a halt in the city.

Remember, Prigozhin has said Putin was mislead, and his efforts are against the corrupt military, not Putin.

Rostov is the principal supply hub for all Russian forces in Ukraine at the moment. Even those in Kherson/Zaporozhia. Its all about where the roads/railroads run.
News reports say that is based on far more reality than the “Putin is a moderate” fairy tale. Putin has killed more Russian speakers than any Kremlin leader since Stalin. This mess in Russia now with “Wagner” is a direct result of Putin’s latest colonialist war of choice on Ukraine.
Mercs don’t fight defensive and losing wars. Putin has gone a bridge too far and now his imperialist war is coming home to Russia.
