I want one!
(built out of a recovered sewer line)
Oh my gosh. That’s where they got it? Yikes 😳.
👍👍
It’s a Bayliner it appears. They make a lot of boats.
Only benefit of the doubt I can see - there is some chance the Navy didn’t want the world to know we could hear an anomaly that size two mile down in the Atlantic?
The we have sonar and listening nets seems obvious, but perhaps this reveals something of the capability?
I spent one summer disassembling sonobouys in the 80’s which had been mothballed since the Vietnam war. Whack one on the bottom with a hammer simulating landing and it would mechanically deploy. Pour saltwater on the batter and the would come to life. We separated aluminum, batteries, dyes and electronics. Had a train car to pitch in.
Do you really believe that safety was what all the stories were about? That just gave them an excuse for the sensationalism - “Only x-hours of Oxygen left as help rushes from around the globe...”
“At least that looks like a modern, factory-built boat, as far as my limited boat knowledge allows. It does not look like something assembled from parts found at Sanford & Son’s junkyard.”
I’ve heard one engineer call it a MacGyver sub. He also explained the faults of some of the gear that was on board as being not robust enough i.e. tested out through rigorous resiliency methodology.
I’ve also heard the CEO might have been a narcissist clamoring for a position at the table of invention. He certainly downplayed the extreme conditions that he was venturing into with a submersible of that low caliber for the extreme conditions he was determined to venture into.

Exactly
Too tall to go under an overpass?
What isn’t being discussed here is that the media would have not had anything to keep it going if it was not for agencies of several governments sending out their Coast Guards and planes while sending hogwash to their lapdog sensationalist media to breathlessly make it a 5 day mystery.
Question is, when they already knew it imploded, why was that fact not reported from the beginning and why did several governments hold back the truth?
I found it telling on how they kept pressing they were multinational operating under one command. Kind of like a new world order odor. See how great it works people? /s
I think distracting people from other news was a consideration, but I think the primary reason for letting it play out was to gain the experience from an operation like this. They will be analyzing what they did and how it worked out for years.
The media strategically picks stories as a distraction and reason to not report on things of significance. The entire OceanGate story was a distraction. It was worth mentioning on the day the sub imploded, but it is no consequence to anyone but the families and friends of the lost. I did not care and did not follow the OceanGate story. It followed me - it was unavoidable, forced and dull distraction.
One of the guys who went down on the third trip said there were some cracking like noises and the owner said exactly what you posted.
The comment heard everyday in breakrooms all across America.......
” And I told that engineer........”
You assume “they” knew.
“They” were likely not communicating
Reminds me of the Challenger
The Morton Thiokol engineers were told to shut up
It’s a BAYLINER! Egads, they bought the Yugo of boats.
They must have used it as construction example. Is it any wonder the hull of their sub splintered like a toothpick?
We exited Afghanistan I. May. Months before
If it bleeds it leads. That’s always been true for the news. That’s not a new phenomenon
If you get distracted that’s on you
Never thought of that. And I’m a boat person. Thanks.
I do remember sources, some in the UK mentioning that the US Navy was not really cooperating in the effort. I guess that could be because they had good reason to believe there was nothing that could be done.
All said, it does seem that there were constant reports of banging in a repeated fashion that really kept this going for days.
