Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has unveiled a new nickname for Ron DeSantis in a new ad targeting Florida’s Republican governor.
The verified Trump War Room account rolled out a Twitter ad Tuesday that accused DeSantis of forcing Floridians to remain in their homes during the COVID pandemic.
The blistering ad, which was fact-checked by Twitter’s community notes feature, also offered the governor a new moniker: “Lockdown Ron.”
“Lockdown Ron DeSantis shut Florida down during the pandemic, much more so than other states,” Trump War Room declared. “Now he’s trying to gaslight the American people into thinking otherwise.”
The post, which contained a 30-second ad targeting DeSantis, concluded, “He’s a liar and a fraud who can’t be trusted.”

Trump has previously referred to DeSantis as “Ron DeSanctimonious,” Rob” and “Meatball Ron.”
A community notes label contradicted the tweet by citing an article from The New York Post that contains quotes of Trump praising DeSantis’ decisions as governor.

Trump at his self-destructive, untruthful worst. Check the FR news posts during COVID, and you’ll see that DeSantis and Georgia’s Kemp were leaders in fighting COVID hysteria, facing-down criticism even from Trump.

This is BS. FLA was one of the best on this issue. I think it’s a tactical blunder on Trump’s part. Trump is vulnerable on Covid, he pushed the vax hard and capitulated to Fauci. He was in a vice and with the upcoming election he had to. Attacking DeSantis on this is disingenuous at best.

Eventually Trump will need support from DeSantis supporters, in a general election. Something he and his handlers should be thinking about.
For Trump to try to campaign on the effects of the “national emergency” he declared that suspended so many constitutional rights is really rich.

Sounds like Trump is experiencing cognitive issues if he’s denying he praised DeSantis’ handling of COVID. DeSantis was among the first to roll back restrictions.
These memory lapses of his should be issues of concern.
Trump should focus on policy, his vision and his successes, and not on name calling. He loses a lot of votes every time he does this.

Trump’s schoolyard taunting and name-calling gets very old after awhile. It’s not talking about the issues. If he can’t criticize people on the issues and has to resort to personal insults continually, maybe he shouldn’t be running.
So how does Trump square with this? Back in April 2020, he was full of praise for DeSantis’ handling of COVID.
