Airlines used to seat from the rear of the plane, they should return to that practice, with the added stipulation that early boarders have their seats switched to the rear. It would also put parents with screaming babies in the rear.

A wheelchair is overkill. A cane or a boot work just as well.

Bunch of lazy fat pigs. I was coming back from Germany and landed in Denver. These fat pigs were pushed one after another to the head of the line for the immigration / customs line. It must have delayed the line by an hour and security warned we sheep to keep quiet when people were complaining about it. I have flown all ofer the world. The US has the worst international airports by far.

People used to try and report people parked in those spaces because they looked just fine.

That ended because the average person can’t always see what may be wrong like heart or breathing issues with another person .A cop or a person in the store would confront someone and end up getting in deep doo doo if they were mistaken.

That said, there are many fakers out there but it is hard to stop this.

I have seen that scam many times and the wheelchair lines get longer and longer year by year. It does not affect me because I tend to wait until the end of the line before I go. I find it is easier and on my first connecting flight I always have an aisle seat and often on the other two flights to and from Việt Nam.

Airlines are required o provide wheelchair service for "disabled" passengers and if they deny a wheelchair to an obviously healthy and able passenger they become involved in altercations and lawsuits. so they have to take the passenger's word for it. It is like the progression after service dogs for blind people became in the law service "animals" for any condition at all and proof is not required, only assertion so you get dogs and cats and other sorts of critters given entry to restaurants and grocery stores and WalMart. You deny someone his assertion that the buzzard is his service- and now even "comfort" animal and you have a lawsuit to defend.

It also has to be uncomfortable to be lumped in now with all the slackers and cheaters who take advantage. It is getting bad enough now that everyone will have to get wheelchair service in order to even be able to board.

Actually, you want to be in the middle of the plane loading.

You need the plane about 2/3 loaded before you board.

That way you have your pick on WHO YOU WANT TO SIT NEXT TO !

mom with crying baby ... NOPE.

fat tub of lard... NOPE

etc. etc. etc.

hot single woman... YEP

Same people that take the electric carts at the grocery store.

`````````````````````````````````````````````````
Not me, I have to use my walker just to get from a handicapped parking spot (if they aren’t all taken) to where the electric carts are stored (if they aren’t all taken). If they are all in use, which frequently happens, I turn around and walk laboriously back to my car and come back another time and yes it’s extremely frustrating and no, I’m not overweight, just ancient.
The only solution I can think of is to buy my own damn electric cart but then I’d have to buy another vehicle to transport it in and those rigs aren’t cheap.
I believe a provision in the ADA prohibits them from questioning anyone’s disability status. You can basically go into any business, claim a disability and the business is required to accomodate that disability with no questions asked. Don’t blame the ariline, blame the Congress that made the rules for the airlines.
There is a lawyer in my small city who specializes in facilitating applications to the DMV for handicap license plates and hangtags
``````````````````````````````````````````````

Illinois here... You don’t need a lawyer to get one here but you do need your doctor to sign a simple form.

Wanna hear some stupid s*** from Illinois? I’m going to tell you anyway. When my doc first ordered me a mirror hanging placard, about ten years ago, I found out that I could get handicapped license plates at no extra cost, so I go to the dmv and sure enough, they said they would issue the plates but I still had to have the mirror hanging card displayed when parked.

Same goes for the “Handicapped” parking spots

I feel the same way. I remember when my mother, who used a walker, truly needed to park up close, and lazy slobs would take up those spaces.

I advocate for wheelchair bound veterans every year in DC.

I am able to share stories like this to my organization, Paralyzed Veterans of America, to ask what can be done to stop this kind of abuse.

And I will!

I’ve flown once since 9/11.

Prior to that, I flew all the time for work. 12-14 times a year - total travel time from home to hotel was 14 hours. 3 airports, one international. I had the system down pat, there was a 45 minute time to connect between US and international. Of course the two airlines were at the complete opposite ends of the airport, which meant I had to grab my luggage (always overhead), deplane, and get to the terminal, including customs in time for my connecting flight, or wait 7 hours. There were assigned seats at the time, which I always took row 1, 2 or 3. I didn’t care which order the boarding was, I had to get off the plane and practically run to make my flight. I didn’t want to wait for families or for fat people to waddle off the plane. Never used the carts, I was faster.

The rules were simpler, didn’t have to take off shoes, etc. I could never make those connections now. I’m so glad I don’t have to fly anymore. Just another thing the government has screwed up.

The US has the worst international airports by far.

Airlines are just a subset of the entire American experience. America as a whole is bad shape.

“...He claimed 14 people used wheelchairs to board, but only six needed them to deplane...”

First of all if these are scamers or Karen's then a simple solution would be to require all such early boarders to remain seated until the last person out of the plane clears the jet way. That would take something like a tag on any carry on luggage that flight attendants could confiscate if they try to get off early or a tag on their seat prior to landing.

Now let me tell you (as Paul Harvey would say) the rest of the story. My wife is 73 years old and has some mobility problems. In particular if she stands for a long period of time without moving she has a hard time with her balance. So if we have had a long check in line at the airport to check luggage, spent a long time going through TSA or customers/immigration, she needs to use either a cane or get a wheel chair. After exceptionally long lines, she has had to call for a wheel chair, usually on international flights.

Boarding is usually much more of a problem than leaving the plane, if she has been able to rest and has decent leg rooms so she can move her feet.

So, to some extent I can understand that the exact number of people who used wheel chairs to board may not exactly match those needed to leave the plane, but it should not as different as reported.
