Trump Plan To Bypass Congress and Starve ‘The Deep State’
realclearpolitics ^ | 6/28/2023 | PHILLIP WEGMANN

Sources close to former President Trump say he has a plan for keeping Congress from ever again forcing him into “disgraceful” and “ridiculous” spending situations. If he returns to the White House, Trump will seek to resurrect authority that Congress stripped from the presidency almost a half century ago.

What President Nixon squandered, his campaign promises, Trump will restore, namely the impoundment power. “A lot of you,” the former president told a New Hampshire crowd Thursday, “don't know what that is.” Indeed, few now remember it.

Impoundment, if restored, would allow a president, in theory, to simply refuse to spend appropriations by Congress. More than just an avenue to cut spending, Trump sees that kind of authority as key to starving, and thus crushing, the so-called “deep state.”

But such a move would fundamentally alter the balance of power, and any effort to restore the long-forgotten authority virtually guarantees a protracted legal battle over who exactly controls the power of the purse. Trump welcomes that fight. Some budget experts believe he won’t get anywhere.

In a statement to RealClearPolitics, Trump described the impoundment power as "the secret weapon" to squeezing out "the bloated federal bureaucracy while still doing everything America needs and more."

"This constitutional power of the President should never have been curtailed," the former president added, "but I will get it back and will use it to stop inflation and bring federal spending under control."

Regardless, advisors close to the former president tell RealClearPolitics they are drawing up plans to challenge the 1974 Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act in court, and if that fails, to lean on the legislature to repeal it. The latter would require passing a law to surrender power, something lawmakers are loath to do.

I think that “losing momentum” is fleeting and in the margin of error.

That is HILARIOUS! Trump tops DeSantis by 38 points in new poll after news of indictment

You obviously don't know so allow me...
A 38 point lead is NOT within the "margin of error".

At a minimum we should play together nicely.

Do you mean - stop showing my guy's true colors as it makes him look bad and I can't defend his words and copy cat actions? /sarcasm

Just rescind Kennedy’s Executive Order 10988.

Stroke of the pen, law of the land, right...

Bwah hah hah hah hah!

Sounds good if the right person is president but could easily backfire if the wrong one is... like Biden.

If the president was mandated to follow the laws passed by Congress we wouldn’t have the border crisis but when you can selectively pick and choose what laws you enforce we have the mess we have.

By the way, the immigration process isn’t broken. The laws are fine if enforced.

Trump rejected a deal that included $25 billion in border wall funding, along with legal status

Maybe you automatically react to anything Trump does, even if it makes you sound like a dem. Do you like the idea of importing leftists, or worse, voters?

At a minimum we should play together nicely.

Glad my Revolutionary War ancestors didn't think like that.

Play nicely, my derriere.

We are no longer a republic and Deep State is waging an asymmetric war to exterminate the middle class.

Nice ain't gonna fix that, is it...

Hey, I see you.

So what do you think about Paul Ryan starting the ball rolling on the pistol brace issue?
(now that you know the source of it all and it wasn't Trump like you claimed)

I’m talking about candidates against Biden.

Then why didn't you say that from the outset?

Oops...wiggle room for you. Never mind.

And Trump thinks that Congress, who hates him, will go along with this?

So your problem (aside from bad TDS) is really with the congressional republicrats, you know - your fellow travelers that you keep championing. Heal thyself. (or is that heel)

Wrong. As long as congress gets plenty of other peoples money to play with they’ll let the president do whatever he wants.

If you think the intel agencies have used up their ten ways from Sunday to take out Trump, you may be surprised.

Read the title of this article and then tell me how Trump gets elected. The nomination? Probably. Trump’s throwing out plenty of red meat for the base. But the general? He can’t win. The deep state will not allow Trump to be president again.

Where is impoundment in the Constitution? The executive branch has the power to veto, the check and balance to the legislature’s passing of a bill. Why would we even want a president to have that power? Like the line-item veto, it sounds good until a bad guy is office.

Vivek Ramaswamy was discussing this on Kudlow yesterday.

I almost wouldn’t be surprised if VR were Trump’s VP pick. They seem to be on the same page on many issues. Kudlow told Vivek that Trump admires him.

The easiest way is to just build Quonset huts in Nome, AK. Transfer the whole dept there. You get a cot, land phone, fax no internet. See ya. One by one.

President Trump would need to find or build a huge warehouse someplace in Bum Fxxx, Nevada desert. Then the ones he can’t fire get a notice to transfer to their department’s station in that warehouse. Just a big space with lines on the floor dividing it into departments and a bunch of old GSA old wooden desks and oak chairs with no cushions and no swivels. No phones on the desk, just one phone hanging on the wall in each area. No cell phone service allowed or a signal blocker that will prevent cell phone use. And just let any one that decides to accept the transfer sit there all day, no productive work assignments. Have a time clock and if they don’t check in by 8:00AM they get fired and if they check out early they get fired and if they don’t use the time clock they get fired. Make the parking lot for the building a half mile from the building. Won’t take too long and they’ll quit.

And Trump thinks that Congress, who hates him, will go along with this? He couldn’t get them to agree to the wall and so much other stuff, I sorry but I cannot imagine him have any chance to do this. Nice talk, but zero action.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Take a longr view.

THe impoundment power must be restored simply because it is what the constitution had previously brought forth and so does convention.Even if TRump does not succeed, maybe the next presidet will. It has become a necessity.

As to those with TDR, they all will eventually be de-elected or they will die of their own TDR invoked exploding heads or sink into insanity.

How can anyone with TDR work as a representative in any capacity. They cannot.Soon they will all die off or disappear.

It would be great if Trump could starve the beast to death. But Congress, like all governments, hate to give up the power they have stolen.
