House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) SENT A LETTER to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Wednesday demanding Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) on the Ukraine energy firm Burisma and several individuals involved with the firm from August 2014 to the present. Comer gave a July 12 deadline. In addition to stating the committee is investigation bribery allegations against Joe Biden, Comer stated the committee has several legislative purposes to its investigation involving whether new laws need to be enacted to require disclosures by relatives of presidents and vice presidents.

Comer sends Letter, expects reply by Mid-July.

How many expect Treasury not to comply with a Letter,

Subpoena probably will eat up another 30 days beyond that.

People need to wake up - the whole game now is Delay. That’s the Entire game.

I suspect Comer was told to follow normal schedule by McCarthy.

Will they get the reports so heavily redacted that they will look like black Construction paper?

.

The Big Picture are delays. McCarthy will shut everything down citing the Election in late May.

They have 11 months and they’re not doing anything urgently.

.
Exactly - and every time they do, add another 30 days.

They never did get an unredacted 1023 on the Bribery.

That’s why they need to move to an Impeachment of Biden, and they can investigate it all under that Umbrella.

Oh boy, that will scare in to complying... If the Republicans refuse to play the game by the same rules the demonrats play by, how do they expect to ever win the game?

McCarthy should just SIGN a Warrant and send a SWAT team to retrieve the documents and Yellen, and bring them to Congress.

Congress has ALL the power in washington, the executive and judicial branch operate according to the whims of CONGRESS!

“U.S. CODE
TITLE 2—THE CONGRESS
CHAPTER 6—CONGRESSIONAL AND COMMITTEE PROCEDURE; INVESTIGATIONS
Sec. 193. Privilege of witnesses
No witness is privileged to refuse to testify to any fact, or to produce any paper, respecting which he shall be examined by either House of Congress, or by any joint committee established by a joint or concurrent resolution of the two Houses of Congress, or by any committee of either House, upon the ground that his testimony to such fact or his production of such paper may tend to disgrace him or otherwise render him infamous.”

Simply look up Hinds Precedents, especially chapters 53 and 51, and Cannon’s Precedents, especially chapters 184-185. You’ll find numerous detailed cases of Congress asserting its power, arresting people, holding them until they agreed to answer questions, and then releasing them. Some of these people did not refuse to appear, but simply failed to satisfactorily answer questions.

Congress has the authority to arrest and imprison those found in Contempt. The power extends throughout the United States and is an inherent power (does not depend upon legislated act)

If found in Contempt the person can be arrested under a warrant of the Speaker of the House of Representatives or President of the Senate, by the respective Sergeant at Arms.

Statutory criminal contempt is an alternative to inherent contempt.

Under the inherent contempt power Congress may imprison a person for a specific period of time or an indefinite period of time, except a person imprisoned by the House of Representatives may not be imprisoned beyond adjournment of a session of Congress.

Imprisonment may be coercive or punitive.

In 1857, a New York Times reporter refused to say which members of Congress had asked him to get them bribes (protecting his “sources” just as various Judith Millers today protect the people who feed them proven lies that costs thousands of lives), so Congress locked him up until he answered and then banned him from Congress.

In 1924 an oil executive appeared but refused to answer certain questions, so the Senate held — literally held — him in contempt. Senator Thomas Walsh of Montana argued that this question of contempt was of the gravest importance, and that it involved “the very life of the effective existence of the House of Representatives of the United States and of the Senate of the United States.” The matter was taken to court, and the witness fined and imprisoned.

Is this why Janet Yellen is headed to China? Is Jellen trying to stay out of the public eye?
Such a bunch of incompetents - who in the world would choose Janet Yellen to serve in such an important position?
Who would even vote to confirm such an intellectual vacuum?

I wonder if 'Kama-LA the Ho' is brushing up on facts and getting prepared "just in case". Probably not.

I am in the minority here on FR, but I was initially pessimistic and even critical of Comer and felt like he was more interested in getting on television than investigating.

I have changed my mind. He is honoring his pledge to tell the American people what they are finding and other committees (besides Mike Turner on Intel - a major disappointment) are doing the same.

Justice won’t happen under this system but reform will only happen if people demand it and that starts with sunlight. Comer is winning the narrative. What happens beyond that is not in his control.

So the July 26 Hunter plea deal with be done and history by then, handicapping all of this. McCarthy is compromised, maybe profiting from Biden schemes. What about Comer?

Other incompetents? Don't you recognized a mutual protection society when you see it. That is why the deep state rejects Trump so vigorously, and tears apart anyone else who actually knows what he/she/zir/them is doing.

Whats interesting is that Treasury, IRS, and FBI all seem to have known about it since the beginning.

Delay...Delay....Delay
Then the first thing we know, the 2024 election season is in full swing and the House ‘leadership’ decides to table all ‘investigations’ until after the new congress is sworn in.

“McCarthy should just SIGN a Warrant and send a SWAT team to retrieve the documents and Yellen, and bring them to Congress.”

Certainly Congress has the power to arrest people, but where exactly do you think Congress is going to get a SWAT team from? And search warrants can only be issued by a judge, not by Congress.

Comer needs McCarthy’s sign off to do anything.

I’m confident McCarthy made promises that he would not Impeach Biden.

McCarthy has said, in last two weeks, Republicans can own the House for 10 years - or Impeach Biden. Thats him trying to scare others away from pushing for Impeachment of Joe

Watch - McCarthy - to block.

And you might as well ask all the banks involved for their SAR’s reports also....they could be different than Treasury.

“Comer gave a July 12 deadline”

Why not walk in there and get it same day. I can go online and get every credit card and bank transaction for the past 5 years in minutes. This is all such blatant kayfabe kabuki.
