Right now both Democrats and Republican parties in Congress are run under a model of strong armed blackmail and intimidation. Threats on committee positions, reelection campaign funding, or outright pork-barrel ear-mark bribes are the norm in securing votes along party lines.
There needs to be a new style of inspirational leadership that is enforced by an appeal to the voters. The Presidential Bully Pulpit use to be used for that.
Different perspective: Having their $hit together has been the GOP’s problem; way too much $hit. The party needs to flush its $hit forever, including turds like steele, and get on with actually winning and governing for a change.
