Just as the July Fourth holiday weekend gets into high gear, thousands of hotel workers in Southern California began striking Sunday morning seeking to negotiate a contract with higher wages and other benefits, according to the union representing the workers.

Members of UNITE HERE Local 11, which says it represents more than 32,000 hospitality workers in Southern California and Arizona, are striking at more than a dozen hotels throughout Los Angeles and Santa Monica after their contract expired just after midnight, according to posts on the union’s Twitter page.

Participants include cooks, dishwashers, servers, front desk workers and room attendants, the union said in a news release. A union representative said Friday that the contract covered about 15,000 workers at 65 hotels.

'Honey, pack a lunch and get the kids ready. We're going to have a nice picnic down at the sewage treatment plant.'

Or their unions heads conned the rank and file into going along with a strike so compliant scabs could be used, people who’ll keep quiet no matter what they see and hear.

Note to striking workers: Decertify your unions before its too late.

One very HISPANIC lady on tv:

“WE moved to APPLE VALLEY-—and it costs lots of gas $$$ to drive to DOWN TOWN LA every day.”...BLAH BLAH, etc.

Apple Valley has to be AT LEAST 70 miles one way from downtown LA——

MOVE TO WHERE EVER you wish-—But do NOT expect your employer to pay you more to get to work.

I wanted to punch her.

I just wonder if this is not Union Sellout Suicide (lockout)

Like when the Teamsters in So Cal took payola to force a concrete truck drivers strike when none of the members wanted it. It worked to purge the unions because the concrete drivers were getting paid too much ($30 an hour in 1985), they got a choice of staying to work at $13 an hour with weak minimal benifits

Perfect timing. I won't be going there anyway. If they are still on strike at the end of September, I'll have to ditch my 50th high school reunion. I'm been delaying sending in my $60 for the event as I'm not sure that we won't have a huge meltdown in the US that makes travel in that time frame ill advised.
