Walmart's $2.57 flavors in 48oz cartons are just fine for me.

We just got back from Walmart. I consider myself a connoisseur of inexpensive ice cream/milk. The Walmart “Great Value” Cookie Dough ice cream is much better in my opinion than the Kroger “Deluxe”. But it makes a big difference if your freezer is either too cold or too warm.

As far as I am concerned, while Ben and Jerry's, or Haugen Daz are typically a little tastier, they cost several times as much and leave an oily film in the back of your mouth because they are so rich and high in fat.

Kroger's Private Selection pints are a new discovery for me. Under $3 and really good quality (not too rich as you mentioned). So far I've tried Coffee, Double Vanilla and Mexican Hot Chocolate. All good.
