To the victors go the spoils
The wheel medicine ships houses crops......................

The indigenous people had none of that the Europeans probably saved their lives in the long run.

Throughout history, war has been brutal. Victor D Hanson often points out that the victors often wiped the defeated off the face of the earth. Raped their women, enslaved their children, killed all the males adolescent and above, razed the cities to rubble, destroyed all their history and written records.

The world had gotten a lot more civilized in 2,000 years and we had a strong abolitionist movement in the 1830s-1850s.

The abolitionist ethos that had become commonplace by the 1870s argued against completely exterminating the Indians and the Indians were not exterminated. Yes their land area shrank to a few percent of what it used to be, but they and their culture survived, albeit in a greatly weakened state.

But perhaps they should be thankful that American Christianity saved them from extermination.
