Putin should cut a deal: No NATO for Ukraine in return for complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine.
Ukraine won’t be in NATO and Russia is going to keep Crimea and Donbas.
Your suggestion is comical.
The patience and support from the West won’t outlast Russia.
Pragmatism suggests peace with Russia keeping Crimea and Donbas, and NATO doesn’t admit Ukraine.
He does not need to cut a deal. He is winning and he will get what he wants. NATO is impotent and falling apart.
That was actually Russia's position for the last 20 years, but their concerns were either ignored, or when deals were made (such as Minsk Agreements) they were broken by Ukraine and its NATO bosses. There was a similar deal in place in April 2022, after the war started - but NATO sent Boris Johnson to Kiev to tell Ukraine to abandon the deal.
So WHY would Russia ever agree to such a thing again?
Putin should cut a deal: No NATO for Ukraine in return for complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine.
Yes, he should. but it depends on what Ukraine’s borders are. Does that include the Crimea? I don’t think Russia will give that up. Since Ukraine did nothing to defend it or try to take it back, I say let them have it in exchange for withdrawing from everywhere else.
Putin and Russia are past worrying about NATO / USA lies and promises.
Russia is going to create facts on the ground that amount to defensible borders - at minimum the Dnieper.
