Georgia Democratic Rep. Mainor switches to GOP

ATLANTA – A Democratic state representative who was criticized by fellow Democrats for voting with Republicans during this year’s General Assembly session has gone over to the GOP.

Rep. Mesha Mainor of Atlanta announced Tuesday that she is turning Republican, adding to the GOP’s House majority.

Mainor voted with the Republicans on several key pieces of legislation this year, most notably her vote in favor of a controversial school voucher bill. Despite her support, the measure failed to pass when a number of rural Republicans opposed it, citing a lack of private-school alternatives in their areas.

On Tuesday, Mainor said the Democratic Party doesn’t have her community’s best interests at heart.

“As a lifelong Democrat … I blindly followed a vision that is far from reality,” she said. “It is time to put people and sound policy above politics and false narratives.”

This is a black Georgia state representative who has been bucking her party on the issue of school choice. This morning, she switched parties.

Bogus excuse. If you subsidize it, they will come.

I’m sure the real reason they oppose it is that school districts are the largest employers in many rural areas. It’s like welfare for middle-class white women.

This is a pretty big deal in that:

“As a member of the Georgia House, Mainor represents Midtown Atlanta, Ansley Park, Castleberry Hill, English Avenue, Atlantic Station, Hunter Hills, Vine City, Dixie Hills, Mozley Park, Sherwood Forest, West Midtown, West End, and the last residing neighborhood of Martin Luther King Jr.”

She has quite a bit of influence over voters in the Atlanta area. How many of her neighbors and friends will follow her to the Republican party?

It’s not just one issue: she’s about as “conservative” as a black Democrat could be permitted to be.

Today she left the plantation, the slaves and the massas are irate, and her courage is worthy of praise especially since she must realize that her career in the GA House comes to an end after next November.

Her state House district is about 90% Democrat, and while SHE may have switched parties the racist voters of her district surely will not and she will be Uncle-Tom’d (or is it Aunt-Jemima’d?) from now until then.

state rep is an important line of defense for citizens of a state. If our state reps truly did their job, much of the Fed corruption wouldn’t trickle down to citizens or would be blocked by state methods.

One of my Fil’s caregivers switched parties last year. She said the democrats no longer represented her values. I was honestly surprised she ass a Democrat - her belief system was actually pretty conservative and I told her so.

Second only to being a postmaster in a burg of 500 people or so. We have them all over SW Pennsylvania. The next nearest town might be all of 7 miles away.

I do confess that I rather like these tiny post offices the 5 or 6 times a year that I want to mail a package. The alternative is to go into one of the big towns, jockey for one of the limited meter spaces and guess how long you are going to be standing in line before the meter maid swoops in to write you a ticket. Generally, it is just best to overfeed the meter pig.

Amazing how black voters in inner cities like sending their children to crappy schools and supporting the deep state while believing their problem is those suburban crackers and Asians who just won't pony up enough tax money.

How much is enough? Well, it is never enough.

Isn’t that the truth?!!! If you see a state’s local representative seats being taken over by the democrats, you know that the Governor and state-wide positions are soon to follow, including the Senators.

All politics is local.

I don’t think so. She has been on this issue for a while now becoming louder and louder regarding the fact that democrats work to keep blacks in failing schools. I think she has seriously moved to the right after looking a bit deeper into the policies of her former party. I believe I posted an article about her a few weeks (or maybe months ago). I’ll see if I can find it.
