Biden Admin's Supply Chain Issues Weaken Navy: Nearly 40% of US Nuclear Subs Out of Commission for Repairs

A new report shows that more than a third of America’s nuclear-powered attack submarines are idle.

According to a Congressional Research Service report released July 6, 18 of the 49 submarines — or 37 percent — are being repaired or waiting for repairs. The report said that is far above the Navy’s goal of 20 percent.

During the first year of the Biden administration, the figure was also at 37 percent before dipping to 33 percent in fiscal year 2022 and then rising again this year.

I suspect this is deliberate and the Biden administration's goal is to weaken our military preparedness. All at the direction of the Biden family's boss, the CCP.

(weaken our military preparedness)

Oh, Barack Hussein Obama’s main agenda: Weaken America by 1,000 cuts and instigating trouble.

Jon Voight was right: Obama feeds poison to his followers. And they lap it up with a spoon 🥄.

I hate Joe Shitbiden as much as anyone but don’t they assume one returning from patrol, one going on patrol, and one in refit?

I thought that was the procedure.

1. I am not defending Biden.

2. It’s fairly normal for about one third of any fleet to spend time in repair and refit.

What is the standard metric for the percentage of subs that are out of commission at one time. The 40% number doesn’t matter much unless you can compare it to what it usually is.

Blowing all munitions in Ukraine. Trannies on leadership. Subs don’t work. Planes, too. Our troops are fat, out of shape, and can “call timeout” in training. DEI insures the best aren’t promoted.

If China was in charge, how could you tell?

“2. It’s fairly normal for about one third of any fleet to spend time in repair and refit.”

I agree. It is my understanding that the subs are out for 6 months per crew. 2 crews per sub. Gold & Blue if memory serves. Then in for repair & refit for 12 to 18 months.
At one time, I read that the navy was thinking of doing the same with the super carriers.

These are Virgia class attacke subs. Only one crew for an attack boat.

more than a third of America’s nuclear-powered attack submarines are idle

Here is the CRS report. The report is specific to the Virgnia Class of attack submarines

As a former a nuclear submarine officer I have to say that I don't know what to make of this. Canibalizing parts from one ship that just came in for refit to make a sub about to go to sea ready for sea is pretty standard fare. Furthermore at any given time most attack submarines are in port for repair, refit, training, and crew R&R.

Moreover, this report does not distinguish between parts and critical parts - the submarine cannot get underway or cannot fight but for this part vs some broken and missing bits that are needed to return the sub to its as built condition, but care not absolutely necessary for operations.

So this could be a huge issue, or it could be breathless reporting based upon a routine audit or inspection written by someone whose job is to overstate things that are wrong.

” It’s fairly normal for about one third of any fleet to spend time in repair and refit.”

Without knowing much I can see that. “Refits” would include improvements. And if they had to most of the subs could probably be put into action before the intended work was completed.
