Cops shoot two bystanders while killing New Mexico knifeman who stabbed Good Samaritan

Shocking new video footage shows the moment New Mexico police officers shot two bystanders while taking down a 25-year-old man who stabbed a Good Samaritan in the neck after being offered a free meal last month.

Officers Brenda Johnson, Eric Wilensky, Violet Baca and Christian Cordova fatally shot Jeramiah Salyards, 25, while also shooting two unnamed bystanders - striking one victim at least four times, causing serious injuries.

At one point, Salyards appeared to try to stand up while police fired another two gunshots at him, leading him to collapse on the sidewalk.

Following the shooting, one officer mistakenly tries to arrest one of the victims while another intervenes.

Salyards died of his injuries. One of the bystanders hit by officers' gunfire was struck in the knee and was treated and released that night from the hospital.

The bystander in the blue jacket was shot several times and suffered critical injuries. He was hospitalized for several weeks following the shooting and it currently still at the hospital going through rehabilitation.

The police shooting occurred on June 29, at about 9:30 pm, after Albuquerque officers responded to a 911 call of stabbing at a McDonald's. Bodycam footage of the incident has just been released.

At first I thought the officers needed more range time. However, after reading the entire article, I believe they should be removed from the force altogether. Obviously, they are incompetent and a danger to the community.

I suspect that is true in a lot places. Thankfully, here in my rural area, the officers spend a lot of time at the range or at a friend’s home range doing a lot of fun target shooting.

For one of the by-standers in this situation to be shot four time makes me think at least one of the officers thought HE was the suspect and was deliberately shooting at him. To hit the wrong person four times certainly had to be deliberate.

His family wrote that he was 'so loved by everyone he met and so misunderstood by many.'

He was known to love music, long walks, riding his bike and most of all he loved his family, his obituary read.

'He was know to gave what ever he had to others. He had a very unique sense of style and always looked his best. Jeramiah had an unforgettable smile that would light up any room,' his family wrote.

THAT is a very true statement. Proficiency is the direct result of lots and lots of controlled practice. That skill degrades without practice. Practice costs $$$.

When you combine lack of proficiency, with poor training, and handguns with rather large magazines, under the stress of a live fire situation LEOs oftentimes resort to “Spray-n-Pray”. I would bet ALL LEOs involved in this shoot EMPTIED their magazines

“Kill them all, for God will know his own.” we can’t take any risks ourselves, such as getting within a reasonable distance of him instead of indifferently unleashing a fusillade of bullets at the group of people.
