1) Re-branding is a high-risk low-reward endeavor for an established brand.
3) The letter ‘X’ has too many established connotations so as to be considered a stupid choice to begin with.

In the '80s Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) changed its logo. Infortunately, after spending a bunch of money, it turned out the colors were too similar to arch rival's IBM logo. Whoops. Back to the drawing board. Didn't do much good as DEC began its collapse in the late '80s.

I knew someone who had made millions selling his company and went out and bought a restaurant and lounge which he renamed using his first name. Every night he was in the bar and picked up the tab for all of his friends, eventually so many “friends” were hanging out with him that he sold the place and took a huge loss. Not sure there is a parallel here, but it reminded me that sometimes if you have lots of money and a large ego that doesn’t always guarantee success.

it’s all fading from memory now. but in the late 70’s and early 80’s i can remember spending hours and hours designing and implementing apps, compilers, and op systems on DEC PDP-11s and VAXs. good machines, pretty awful times, though.
