Just another entry for the category:
“Never claim a conspiracy exists when simple human incompetence will do.”
Although the fire is still not out and there is concern about fire boat efforts flooding and/or sinking the ship, the presence of 25 electric vehicles (among 2800+ embarked) is drawing attention. Whether or not the EVs are the source of the fire will have to wait for the post-fire investigation.
In addition to problems afloat, there have been a lot reports of EV catching fire in public and home parking garages. I cannot recall EV battery fire problems being this prominent until very recently. Yet modern pure electric and hybrid electric cars have been around for decades.
Is it just a consequence of the increasing numbers of EVs catching up with established statistical probabilities or is there a recent design change/manufacturing flaw causing the seeming uptick in fires?
I think it’s Hanlon’s Razor.
“Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.”
“or is there a recent design change/manufacturing flaw causing the seeming uptick in fires?”
My guess is the culprit is the constant demand for increased battery capacity. All these batteries have a chance for a catastrophic discharge, and the larger the capacity, the more catastrophic the discharge.
