Flight delays, cancellations across US could continue for next decade due to staffing shortages: report

The recent spate of flight delays and cancellations may persist for as much as a decade — due to a shortage of some 32,000 pilots, mechanics and air traffic controllers, as well as “unrealistic scheduling” by airlines, according to an investigative report.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told CBS News his office is investigating several airlines for what a rep called “unrealistic scheduling,” which leads to a carrier’s inability to provide the expected service to the flying public.

Experts said the trend in staffing issues suggests that the problem could get a lot worse before it gets better — and could affect travelers for another decade.

“Some of the predictions I’m hearing is that the pilot shortage won’t be resolved until 2032 or something like that,” Dean Headley, one of the data and industry experts, told CBS News.

I don’t think a career in the airlines could support a family these days. I wouldn’t want to be away from home for the amount of time required, even if the pay was half-decent (which it isn’t).

Wait until the ‘diversity’ hires start crashing planes.

Hey Petey ... you could not even run a small Mid West town? This is definitely out of your league

Maybe now they’ll ditch the DEI nonsense.

They couldn't keep us in our homes with a "global pandemic" ...

So, they are created a shitstorm of an economy, policies, and depressed/overworked/underpaid workforce that doesn't allow us to easily travel freely.

I tell everyone I know to do the bare minimum and only help other white guys.

You want to ostracize us, good luck.

If there’s a way to make the situation worse, Pete will certainly find it.
So I guess I’d better plan my next trip by train.

Either drive, or stay home.

Even driving, you have road construction failures.

“Wait until the ‘diversity’ hires start crashing planes”

Was in aviation maintenance in the DoD attached US Navy at a “depot level” maintenance facility for over 30 years.......we had our share of affirmative action hires that had no business working on the aircraft......to this day I’m amazed that never contributed to directly or even indirectly causing a class A mishap (loss of aircrew).

A little more than a year ago, analysts forecasted that the U.S. airline industry would need to somehow hire 14,000 pilots per year until 2030, despite only 6,000 new pilots getting their qualifications in the U.S. each year, while half of current U.S. pilots will retire in the next 15 years.

Now they're pushing back the "get-well" date to 2032.

I will help those who truly need help - truly, in the sense of true ignorance/innocence ... regardless of any "checkbox." Being a son/prince of Him, I am called to do this.

HOWEVER ...

I am not naïve to what is happening to people (esp. those of my race, religion, sex, and family heritage) ...

So, if those have made or voted for the "dog food" ... I do allow it when THEY have to finally eat it themselves and get out of the way of the force-feeding.

I hope many will finally wake up ... but after the 2022 mid-term election, I think too many may be too far gone.

My team is 100% white male, so I help.
There’s a reason I picked EE, and a reason I picked power distribution.
I’m ahead of Scott Adams.

So why is this just a recent problem then? Did pilots and controllers all decide to retire at the same time?

Didn’t some of the pilots lose their jobs because they refused to get the vax?
