Hunter Biden’s defense team on Wednesday rejected a plea agreement after a federal judge forced prosecutors to confirm that the deal did in fact not include immunity from future potential charges related to Hunter Biden acting as an agent for foreign governments.
According to the New York Times, Judge Maryellen Noreika had asked Leo Wise, a top prosecutor in the case, if the plea deal meant Hunter Biden would be immune from prosecution for other possible crimes, specifically including crimes related to the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).
When Wise said no, Biden’s lead lawyer, Chris Clark, reportedly then said the agreement was “null and void.”
Former top Trump administration official Kash Patel, a former public defender and former national security prosecutor, said the judge specifically mentioning FARA indicates that the issue had come up during the discovery process of the case.
“If that issue is going to be legally precluded from being prosecuted in the future, she has the responsibility to demand that answer from the DOJ,” Patel said.
He added that it appeared that Hunter Biden’s lawyers thought that they had negotiated their way out of future charges related to violating FARA, which would be a felony with prison time.
“It looks as if they just canned the plea agreement because — having been over there on the defense side, you quietly know when you’ve lost, and they lost on the FARA point is my first reaction, which to me tells me the DOJ tried to bury the FARA conviction,” he said,

“His whole art career is just another form of money laundering.”
Hunter gets millions for his finger paints. Of course any 6 year old could do better.
For sure.
Given the legal immunity handed out to billionaires and billionaires' companies -- many of the pharmaceuticals -- by the government over the years, I expect SSDD. Sad to say, but that is my expectation.
What is ssdd???
Imho The path of least resistance is for Hunter to dump his current attorneys and retain a new defense attorney, thus gaining a delay.
If delays don’t solve the problem, then the judge must be surreptitiously delivered with a carrot such as a deposit in a Malta bank account. If she does not get the hint, there will be a tragic accident involving a relative or close friend.
The ds probably has fixed the perspectives of dozens of lower court jusges who got the itch to be a national hero.
:-(
Imho The reason norieka is even on the bench is because trump made a logrolling deal with McConnell- I’ll put your wife in the cabinet but in return you must approve all my judicial nominees.
Patel seems less than coherent
Same sh#t, different day.
Which makes the rest of your comment most valid.
“I have concerns about the agreement,” Noreika said. “I can’t let him plea to something if he thinks he has protection from something and he doesn’t.”

This leads to the question of whether norieka was protecting Hunter or just protecting her own reputation (if she is not sticking a finger in the dike)…
Why give Hunter any plea deal? They’ve got him dead to the rights and he would never turn State’s witness against Slow Joe.
Weiss’ office said in the statement Tuesday morning that the investigation is ongoing. Earlier in the day, Clark said in a statement to CBS News, “it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved.”

So it really was a very open gap between the doj and Hunter.
If Hunter can come up more delays such as changing his defense attorney, could he last through until January 2025, when the democrats could potentially regain the house and stop any impeachment hearings?
Can the judge prevent Hunter from changing his attorney and incurring court delays based on this seemingly choreographed disagreement?
Norieka has donated to Romney in the past.
Someone needs to reassure me that this is not the legal equivalent of a three-way between Hunter, the doj, and norieka…
