I was absolutely stunned when I heard some of the cruise lines had decided to port there.....I get the humanitarian idea of making an effort to inject some life into the local economy but who in their right mind is gonna get off the boat and wade into THAT cesspool?

I got off a ship and went into Nassau Bahamas once in the 80s.....that won’t be happening again.

The cruise ships that do go to Haiti operate within armed high security tourist areas, essentially cordoned off from the rest of the country.

Labadee, the cruise port, is located on a peninsula behind high fences with razor wire and manned with armed guards. It's more of a Disney production of Haiti than the real thing.

Laberadee. It is like a private island roped off from everybody else in Haiti except for some workers. Very beautiful.
