Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy signed a law Saturday that blocks state and local officials from closing gun stores during declared disasters, unless all other businesses are also ordered shuttered.
The legislation was championed by gun rights advocates like the National Rifle Association in response to the pandemic, which caused many businesses to be shut down.
“NRA applauds @GovDunleavy for his unwavering support of our Second Amendment rights and for signing this House Bill 61, championed by Speaker Cathy Tilton, into law,” the gun rights lobby tweeted late Saturday.
Dunleavy, a Republican, issued several public health disaster declarations during the COVID-19 pandemic. A 2020 order by the city of Anchorage stirred controversy by shuttering gun stores and shooting ranges.
The governor said firearms are an essential part of the Alaskan way of life.

The problem with so many GOP controlled states is they will not introduce such laws when their is an excellent chance for their passage. They wait until one or the other chamber is controlled by the democrats, THEN they introduce the law and use it as a campaign fund-raising issue, while they know it has no chance of passage.
Much like the GOP did during Trump's Presidency. They had two years to pass laws on issues they had used as campaign fund-raising for years. But they were too busy working against Trump and worried that their gravy train would be stopped to take up issues of concern to their consituents.

Correct. Anytime in the past that the GOP had both chambers and the Presidency, they were convinced to “work across the aisle” and pass Democrat wish-list type items, while ignoring the wishes of the voters who put them into office.
That is what brought us to the Trump presidency in 2016. Both parties have declared such a thing will never happen again. They will destroy Trump, his supporters, and even this nation before they allow that to happen again. I thought the corruption was bad, but it is apparently much worse than any of us has every imagined. How much is being covered up? How much and in what ways have they sold out our nation? We may never know.
The Biden Crime Family bribe estimates now range from $50 million to $100 million. It takes your breath away. But, except for a few, nobody seems to care about it at all. If they can uncover bribes of this magnitude, what is the real amount at all levels of government? I’m convinced that massive bribery is one of the key factors in erasing the southern border.

You can tell the talking points that went out to the trolls who comment at news sites.
Hunter is a private citizen and not a government employee so the allegations against him mean nothing. I’m not sure what that has to do with the issue, but that’s their position and they repeat it non-stop. Are private citizens now allowed to accept bribery money from foreign governments and business interests?
I was in AK a couple months ago. I was very glad to meet my ATV tour guide and find him wearing a stainless .44 mag revolver in a nice chest rig that also carried a set of reloads. The email confirmation had said bear repellent was part of what came along with the tour, and I was glad they weren’t kidding.
Since it’s in the Constitution, we shouldn’t have to pass such laws, but we do.
