The world is completely unstable. WW3 on the horizon. The USA is almost bankrupt. These thing require constant cooling even when shut down. What could go wrong?
Ah, no, they don’t. If they’re completely shut down they don’t need constant cooling applied.
The AP1000s will actually shut down safely if they lose cooling water input - they can cool down to safe shutdown if the circuit is full at the time of failure:
