Yes. And the differences can be extreme. Tamil for instance has no relation to Hindi or Punjabi. Its in an entirely different language family.

English is the lingua franca of India. Its also the language of instruction in higher education. But its a sort of English that takes a lot of getting used to.

We had Indians at work since I started there in the 70s.

Indian Professors at “University” since I got there in the late 60s. [Ohmygau sign teta...]

I remember a conversation with alleged tech support where I kept asking the person to repeat himself. Finally he lost his cool and exclaimed, "Sir! I am speaking perfect English!"
