Hawaii Fires Fueled by Invasive Alien Grasses on Abandoned Farmland
Breitbart ^ | 08/11/2023 | JOEL B. POLLAK

The devastating wildfires that have scorched Hawaii and destroyed much of the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui have been fueled by invasive alien grassland species that have grown on abandoned farms that used to cultivate pineapple and other crops.

The grasses, which grow faster after rainy winters, create fuel for fires and are the biggest factor in turning Hawaii from a place where wildfires are uncommon to one in which they are increasingly considered a familiar risk, much as in mainland California.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday:

Kind of like invasive aliens on grass coming over our border. That’s a wildfire also. Unfortunately, the RATS aren’t worried about that.

Interesting story; it calls the grass “alien”, but does not identify where the grass came from. Sort of like, “mistakes were made, but nobody made them”.

Abandoned farmland? I thought Zuckerberg bought up all of the land.

Probably let the grass grow to preserve the top soil.

I posted this exact reason yesterday for the cause of the fire. Look at Google map or Earth. Satellite view of that town is from 2023. Do street view on the roads and you will see that wild grass growing right next to the residential houses. Some with pallets and trash and junk stored right beside the grass. A firebreak could have prevented this man made disaster. But when democRATS are in charge, everything breaks down.

It is called “cheat grass,” greens up early with spring rains and browns out early summer, leaving fine dry tinder that can catch even a spark and spread ra[idly into a wildfire. Marshall Fire in Colorado iirc 2021 destroyed a whole suburb in what was a similarly wind-whipped grass fire.

Cost of production and transportation.

Pineapple is also an ‘alien’ species in Hawaii.

Wildfire from wild grass does not care what you income level is. DemocRAT stupidity is stopping the farming of Hawaii and letting that grass go wild affects every home in the burn zone.
Lahaina is surrounded by former farm land. They just stopped farming. The Lahaina Bypass goes right through the grassy pastures. One cigarette or one point of ignition from a ner-do-well and up it goes!

Literally ever article I’ve read on this mentions climate change in either the title or first paragraph.
